About the role

The Director implements the hospital's mission, philosophies, goals, standards, policies, and procedures. Administration responsibilities for the department include planning, budgeting, staffing, managing, and evaluating the work of the department. The Director provides leadership and vision for the staff of the department. The Director is responsible for programmatic development and revision. Intervention to achieve preventative, supportive, and restorative goals for patients, residents and their families is undertaken in collaboration with medical and allied health care staff.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Plans department goals, and objectives and establishes policies and procedures to implement and maintain approved plans.
  • Develops a departmental strategic plan complying with organizational guidelines which identifies objectives for increasing market share and volumes.
  • Assures employees understand and are committed to the organization Mission, Vision, and Core Values.
  • Encourages employees to participate in Mission activities that contribute to the overall good of the community. Sets an example to employees.
  • Participates on appropriate committees.
  • Develops and maintains departmental customer satisfaction program in accordance with organizational guidelines which exceed guest, family, patient, and physician satisfaction.
  • Promotes sensitivity with cultural and religious beliefs.
  • Prepares and submits realistic capital and operations budgets according to approved formats, procedures, and deadlines.
  • Monitors fiscal operations and is accountable for exceptions.
  • Proactively responds to fiscal changes by anticipating a need to adjust operations to ensure productivity and expense standards are met.
  • Ensures that the principles of inventory management are used that provide for the economic and timely acquisition and delivery of products.
  • Actively seeks methods and products for the reduction of cost while maintaining / improving clinical care and quality outcomes.
  • Assures the quality of services provided by effectively managing human resources (ex: hiring, recruiting, managing human resources, performance appraisals, positive discipline, and appropriate conflict resolution).
  • Works with hospital Administration, Management, and staff to resolve existing or anticipated problems.
  • Continually updates professional standards and practices, maintains contacts with other hospitals, and represents SPH to professional organizations.
  • Monitors and controls department activities, which include overseeing compliance of services provided, responding to complaints and inquiries, analyzing and using statistical data and reports.
  • Coordinates, along with Executive Director and Clinical Managers (if applicable), a quality management program which complies with all federal, state, and hospital regulations and meets / exceeds Joint Commission standards.
  • Maintains Policy and Procedure manuals for assigned areas.
  • Ensures that staff comply with training requirements appropriate to assigned area and job description.
  • Ensures that all applicable employment standards confidentiality, safety, employee health, infection control, Joint Commission, and licensure are met and maintained by self and employees.
  • Complies with SPH and unit specific infection control, risk management, and OSHA guidelines and practices.
  • Assures coordination and availability of continuing education needs for the staff within area of assigned responsibility.
  • Evaluates department activities and assures timely review of performance on responsible employees within assigned area.
  • Represents areas of assigned responsibility and participates in discussions on planning with hospital, medical staff, committees, within the WA/MT Region, PH&S System, and other outside entities.
  • Assures that qualified staff are hired and trained through approved hospital systems.
  • Establishes and clearly communicates fair and consistent performance standards.
  • Demonstrates an interest and an ability to encourage / coach/ mentor employees toward personal and professional development and uses available resources for this purpose.
  • Delegates work establishing accountability for outcomes.
  • Assures that employees comply with the “Commitment to Excellence” program.
  • Models above program as well as the Core Values of Providence Health and Services.
