The Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) is excited to offer a competitive opportunity to serve as the Chief Medical Officer in the Director's Office.

Job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

A Graduate from an accredited medical school and residency program.

Training in Family Medicine, Pediatrics, or Internal Medicine preferred.

The incumbent must maintain a current medical license to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia, be Board Certified, or be eligible for Board Certification in an appropriate area of medicine.

The DMAS Chief Medical Officer (CMO) provides executive level leadership in support of the Agency's mission and advances key initiatives and has accountability for the clinical strategy while building sustainable programs that promote innovative ways to achieve improved outcomes for our members.

The CMO serves as a member of the Executive Leadership Team and provides guidance on a wide range of high-priority policy, programmatic, and clinical initiatives to improve the health and well-being of Virginians in the Medicaid program through the provision of high-quality and cost-effective health services.

The CMO is responsible for the development and implementation of clinical guidelines, procedures, standards and controls for the Virginia Medicaid program.

The CMO oversees the Pharmacy team in addition to the Medical Support Unit and works across divisions in support of programmatic goals.

The CMO leads direct engagement with the medical and pharmacy directors of the managed care organizations, clinicians throughout the Commonwealth, and stakeholders to develop program policies, clinical best practices and performs short- and long-range planning.

May work up to one full day per week in a clinical setting with a patient population that includes the uninsured and Medicaid/FAMIS beneficiaries (for which an alternative work schedule can be offered).

Minimum Qualifications

Competitive candidates will meet these minimum qualifications:

Extensive and current knowledge of the Medicaid population, Medicaid/CHIP programs, managed care delivery systems, and the assessment of quality through metrics.

Extensive executive level leadership experience in both medical and management roles.

Considerable knowledge and experience in creating policy and clinical recommendations that are based on comprehensive research and analysis.

Considerable knowledge of current payment and delivery system reform efforts among private and/or government systems of care.

Considerable experience managing, prioritizing, and delegating tasks to assigned staff.

Considerable project management and leadership skills.

Considerable experience of systems/programs/and computer software to include Microsoft Office Suites.

Considerable knowledge of state and federal laws, regulations, and policies regarding the Medicaid and CHIP programs.

Extensive experience meeting deadlines.

Considerable experience working independently, collaborating with internal leadership and external stakeholders, and serving effectively as both a member and/or a leader of multi-disciplinary teams.

A Graduate from an accredited medical school and residency program.

The incumbent must maintain a current medical license to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia, be Board Certified, or be eligible for Board C
