Northrop Grumman’s Defense Systems sector is hiring a Feature Architecture Lead Sr. Staff Systems Engineer (level 5) to join its team. This opportunity is in Roy UT, Colorado Springs, CO or Huntsville AL and will support the Sentinel Program. Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force’s sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities and associated infrastructure.
What you will get to do:
As the Feature Architecture Lead Sr. Staff Systems Engineer, this individual will be responsible for the full System & Incremental Feature Architecture & Definition to support successful execution by the development and I&T teams. Will perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detailed trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
This selected engineer will be skilled at presenting technical solutions to senior leadership and acting as as organization’s spokesperson for major initiatives. Additionally, they will be maintaining and interacting with external customer contacts, capturing technical needs, and translating them into system‑feature concepts.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM with 14 years’ experience; 12 years’ experience with a Masters’ degree in STEM; or 10 years’ experience with a PhD.
- Must be a U.S Citizen with an active DoD Secret (or higher) clearance (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation
- Ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (SAP/PAR).
- 5 years of Systems Engineering experience defining requirements, behavior models, interfaces, and verification plans that support the execution of development and integration teams.
- 5 years of experience leading cross-functional (software, systems, test) teams and flowing out information to a large organization.
- 4 years of experience leading projects through concept baselines, design reviews, and Review Board assessments.
- 4 years of experience in programs using a Model-Based Systems Engineering approach MBSE tools (Cameo, DOORS/DOORS‑Next)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience planning and managing large‑scale system‑of‑systems programs using an agile, incremental‑feature‑based methodology (including feature baselines, Agile Earned Value Management, and Jira workflow coordination)
- Hands‑on use of MBSE tools (Cameo, DOORS/DOORS‑Next) to tag and trace feature elements to create an incremental system functionality release plan.
