About the Role
The Senior Accountant role is responsible for a broad range of monthly accounting activities and financial analysis, with an emphasis on supporting the month-end close process and balance sheet reconciliations. Key duties include preparing and posting journal entries, reconciling various balance sheet accounts (with a focus on compensation and benefits), providing general accounting support for cross-functional initiatives, conducting technical accounting analysis, and participating in projects to enhance overall accounting operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Record journal entries for activity and transactions related to assigned accounts, including but not limited to compensation, benefits, accruals, escheatment, and debt.
- Prepare, reconcile, and analyze balance sheet accounts, particularly those associated with payroll, employee benefits, other compensation-related accounts, escheatment, and debt.
- Support month-end close for international entities.
- Support technical GAAP analysis of new company initiatives and transactions (e.g., new compensation structures or benefit programs) to ensure proper accounting treatment.
- Assist with audit requests by preparing supporting documentation and schedules for compensation, benefits, and other general ledger accounts.
- Assist with Monthly, quarterly and annual Financial and Bank Compliance Reporting
- Perform analytical reviews, including researching variances between actual and expected results, budgets, and forecasts, with a focus on compensation and benefits expenses.
- Collaborate with HR and other cross-functional teams on accounting matters related to payroll, benefits, and other employee-related expenses.
- Support software and project initiatives by providing recommendations impacting relevant subject matter areas (requirements gathering, UAT, etc.).
- Build and present ad-hoc reports to support monthly analyses and management requests as needed.
- Support fixed asset monthly and quarterly close activities by preparing journal entries, roll-forwards, and account reconciliations related to fixed assets and right-of-use (ROU) assets as needed
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and controls around month end close and reporting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required
- 5+ years of relevant experience in accounting required; 1-2 years with an audit firm preferred
- CPA preferred
- Extensive knowledge of US GAAP
- Experience with Oracle ERP preferred
- Strong accounting, reconciliation, and analytic skills, especially in compensation and benefits areas
- Proficient in MS Excel
