The Job:

The Tools & Outdoor (T&O) division of Stanley Black & Decker is seeking a full-time Senior Learning Experience Designer to join the Stanley Black & Decker University (SBDU) training team in a hybrid model (onsite and home office) in Towson, MD.    The Sr Learning Experience Designer will work closely with SBDU Program Managers, Instructors, the Learning Experience team, and various subject matter experts across the business. Your work designing training experiences will shape the culture of learning at SBD and fuel the development of employees within the Tools & Outdoor business unit of the company.

You will be a primary thought leader on the learning experiences, creative strategy, and design standards for the projects you lead. You put the learner first and develop learning journeys that best suit the learner based on the learning needs analysis. You are a skilled communicator with the ability to translate various topics and learning needs into easy-to-follow and engaging training in a live or digital medium. You are confident in using any number of learning theories and models in developing training experiences. You enjoy working on a team that frequently collaborates together and with other departments, but you aren't afraid to tackle projects alone. 

You’ll get to: 

Strategy

  • Build and maintain relationships with business leaders and key subject matter experts to ensure training is aligned with objectives and understand causes of performance gaps
  • Identify what training is required (or if other solutions will meet the need)
  • Research and investigate; conduct working sessions and interviews with various subject matter experts
  • Evaluate and ensure learning program effectiveness through measurement and analysis
  • Anticipate learner's questions and provide clarity on complex topics

Development

  • Design and develop content, courses, and curriculums along with documentation and resources that best fit the needs of the learner
  • Collaborate with SBDU Instructors on curriculum strategies and arrangement for both virtual and blended training
  • Collaborate with Training Content Production team to create engaging content needed for courses and curriculums
  • Experiment and use trending technologies to create engaging and effective learning experiences
  • Incorporate the adult learning principles and methods that best suit the learner and the learning needs into each training
  • Explore various learning modalities
  • Track, manage, and update training courseware when necessary

Communication & Enablement

  • Promote new training offerings and encourage employees to seek self-learning opportunities
  • Work with managers and leaders to identify and improve learner engagement and performance gaps
  • Provide training statistics and analysis to training and business

The Person:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in an Instructional Design or Learning & Development role
  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in a relevant field such as Instructional Design or Education
  • Proficiency with LMS platforms and digital authoring software such as Workday Learning, Articulate 360, NovoEd, and others
  • Advanced-level knowledge on the Principles of Adult Learning
  • Advanced-level skill in design theory
  • Expert-level proficiency with learning content authoring tools
  • Expert skills to design, write, and otherwise produce training manuals/designs, lesson plans, and job aids
  • Strong communication skills including copywriting, storytelling, and presenting
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment
