Director - Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A),Research & Development Division IT / Chief Technology Office (CTO)

Key Responsibilities

IT Finance is a full service Financial Planning & Analysis Function to guide our Technology organization to invest in value creating capabilities to help our Company save and improve lives.

The Director Research & Development Division IT and Chief Technology Office (CTO) will support two key functions within Information Technology. 

This role supports the VP Research & Development Division IT and the Research & Development Division IT Leadership team.  The Company has prioritized Technology investment into Research & Development Division IT as a fundamental lever to help our Research & Development Division IT transform how they work, using cutting edge technology to discover, develop and register new medicines. Our Research & Development Division IT is driving major technology enabled transformation in our Research & Development Division IT spanning the LROP including Discovery, Clinical and Regulatory.

This role also supports the SVP of the Chief Technology Office (CTO) and the CTO leadership team.  CTO is on the forefront of developing new and re-usable platforms to supercharge technology development at our Company, including Generative AI, AI/ML, Hyper automation, Data and Analytics, Foundational Platforms and Architecture. 

Responsibilities of this role include:

Leadership & Partnership:

  • Serve as a trusted advisor, and partner to the VP of Research & Development Division IT and SVP of CTO and their respective teams

  • Support IT Financial Management transformation through Research & Development Division IT and CTO emerging from the Business of IT program, including evolution of the product model, workforce/resource management and demand management.

  • Manage team of 4 Finance professionals

  • Manages exceptions, removes barriers for teams, and ensures risk and compliance needs are being managed and remediated

Financial Planning & Analysis:

  • Lead the development of Budget, LROP and Forecasts for CTO and Research & Development Division IT

  • Facilitate trade-offs to ensure resources are allocated to the highest value programs

  • Develop Integrated Business Cases for Technology investments in partnership with business stakeholders and Divisional Finance to articulate the value expectations of investments

Value Management Finance Leader:

  • Lead and build our collective capability for Financial Evaluation in IT to define and quantify the value opportunities unlocked by technology investment, and the tracking mechanisms to ensure Value Pull through.

  • Establish and manage the framework and playbook to scale across IT Finance team and IT Product Teams, partnering with Value Management lead in IT Strategy.

  • Consult with teams on how to structure and scale Value Management approach within their initiatives.

Position Qualifications:

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, business, information technology, management information systems or related discipline

  • MBA Preferred

Required Experience and Skills:

  • 5+ years in Finance, business operations, business strategy, investment management, or similar field

  • Plan, lead and implement successful large-scale transformations in an ambiguous, fast paced environment, with multiple stakeholders and levels of leadership involved

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Apply knowledge of FE&A frameworks to define ROI, and align on value capture/realization

  • Assess budget, cost optimization and cost driver analysis to provide meaningful insights for teams developing business cases and making investment decisions

  • Ability to guide and influence interdisciplinary teams on Financial concepts and how that impacts Value Management

  • Communicate financial and performance information to leadership and colleagues for both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Demonstrated ability to act as strategic thought partner and trusted advisor to the business

  • Skilled in data analysis platforms such as PowerBI

  • Work well in a matrixed organization and across global teams to drive alignment

  • Demonstrate strong communicating and influencin
