The Department of Orthopaedics is currently seeking a full time Research Laboratory Assistant to work in Miami, FL. The Research Laboratory Assistant aids scientists in basic science experiments by monitoring and recording their findings. Moreover, the Research Laboratory Assistant ensures laboratory compliance with applicable safety regulations.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Cleans, sanitizes, maintains, and operates laboratory equipment.

  • Keeps records of research data and assists in analyzing it.

  • Maintains inventory of laboratory equipment and supplies and places orders in a timely fashion.

  • Proofreads and assists in the writing of manuscripts, grant proposals, and lab protocols.

  • Prepares reports of experiment results.

  • Performs research by completing simple experiments or steps in more complicated studies.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in science, biology, or related area.

Experience:

Minimum one-year basic science experience in biology, chemistry, or similar lab environment. Experience with western blots, tissue culture is preferred.


    Department Specific Functions

    • Candidates must also have valuable experience with laboratory etiquette and safety, weekly laboratory meeting presentations and report writing. 

    • Perform basic science bench experiments and basic laboratory techniques such as Western blot and tissue culture.

    • Maintain database records, collect, and analyze research data in compliance with study protocols.

    •  Knowledge and experience with polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and Western Blot, qRTPCR, and tissue culture is needed for this position

    • Organizes and performs experimental procedures as defined in project meetings with PI.

    • Must maintain good laboratory records, be organized and responsible, with excellent oral and written communication skills.

    • Discusses progress of work regularly with supervisor.

    • Perform basic science bench experiments and basic laboratory techniques.

    • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

    • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

    • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

    • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
