Job Description

Strong Youth Project Administrator

The Exercise Sciences Department’s Strong Youth Project Administrator will play a central role in supporting and advancing the BYU Strong Youth Project, a multi-disciplinary initiative designed to improve the quality of youth sport experiences through holistic, evidence-based programming. This part-time position will (1) oversee implementation of a new pilot project, (2) lead efforts to identify sustainable funding sources, and (3) manage BYU undergraduate student involvement.

What you’ll do in this position:

  • Oversee all aspects of the “Comprehensive Competitive Athletics Experience for Underserved Youth,” including team development, workshops, and family engagement.
  • Act as the main point of contact for faculty, students, families, and community partners.
  • Manage logistics and communication Strong Youth Projects, including the Strong Youth Conference.
  • Identify and pursue funding through grants, sponsorships, and donor outreach.
  • Supervise and mentor undergraduate student teams, delegate tasks, and ensure meaningful learning experiences aligned with BYU’s mission.

What qualifies you for this role:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in one of the following fields: education, health sciences (e.g., exercise science, public health), social work, psychology, nonprofit management, or a related discipline
  • At least 1 year of experience in education, program administration, community engagement, or nonprofit project work (Are we required to require this?) 
  • Experience working with or supervising college-age students or volunteers
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to manage multiple moving parts, meet deadlines, and keep records
  • Comfort with project planning tools (e.g., spreadsheets, checklists, or collaborative apps like Trello or Google Workspace)
  • Clear and professional oral and written communication
  • Ability to engage and coordinate with a diverse group of stakeholders (faculty, students, families, community partners)
  • Ability to delegate, coach, and monitor the work of student teams
  • Conflict resolution and interpersonal awareness
  • Ability to research and summarize funding opportunities
  • Drafting initial grant proposals, donor communications, and sponsorship materials
  • Commitment to the values and mission of BYU and the Strong Youth Project
  • Willingness to work some evenings or weekends for events. 

Preferred

  • Master’s or terminal degree, or significant graduate-level coursework in one of the above fields is preferred, particularly if focused on exercise science, youth development, community outreach, or program administration; to effectively communicate with scientists, clinicians, and community stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising (grants, sponsorships, or donor outreach)
  • Experience working in youth sport, youth development, or educational programs
  • Prior experience managing interdisciplinary teams or cross-functional projects
