About the role

Overview

The Agency of Education (AOE) is hiring an Education Programs Coordinator II - School Climate to support systemic transformational change efforts as a member of The VTmtss Team. To address students' social, emotional, mental health, and academic needs the VTmtss Team uses the VTmtss Framework and continuous improvement methodologies to provide technical assistance on systems improvement to district and school-level teams. As one of the teams of the Student Support Services Division VTmtss Team members collaborate with the Early Learning Team to ensure PreK-12 Early MTSS and VTmtss Framework alignment and the Special Education Team to ensure students with a disability are provided access to and membership in every aspect of the VTmtss Framework.

 

The School Climate Coordinator will: 

  • Strategically promote equity, inclusivity, and continuous improvement as they engage in all aspects of the Division and VTmtss Team's work.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and coordinator of VTmtss Team's work regarding Rule 4500, harassment, hazing, and bullying prevention, exclusionary discipline, restorative approaches, and Section 504 and their intersection with the VTmtss Framework. 
  • Independently make appropriate, autonomous decisions regarding the coordination of several areas of expertise of which the team is responsible for providing leadership, oversight, and support to school districts in Vermont: restraint and seclusion (Rule 4500), harassment hazing and bullying prevention, restorative approaches, exclusionary discipline, and Section 504. 
  • Provide project management, manage incoming responses to policy questions, and analyze data to coordinate the VTmtss Team's work in improving and expanding school climates. 
  • Support the VTmtss Team in identifying emerging and consistent school climate themes and trendlines through data tracking and outcome targets, support in creative and proactive collaborative thinking for resources, tools, and support for LEAs. 
  • Represent the VTmtss Team in inter-Division, inter-Agency, community partnerships, and contracted vendors work related to school climate. 

 

The VTmtss Team is looking for a teammate who can:

  • Work collaboratively to lead and support projects within and across organizations.
  • Communicate clearly orally and in writing.
  • Analyze data to identify trends and needs.
  • Facilitate conversations with partners who may have diverse perspectives.
  • Demonstrate leadership experience facilitating systems change and continuous improvement initiatives in an educational setting.

 

This position supports education systems' improvement of problems of practice that disproportionately impact vulnerable student populations. Environmental Factors

Work is generally performed in a standard office setting, but significant travel may be anticipated for which private means of transportation must be available. Some work outside of normal work schedule may be required. There may be considerable interaction with a variety of publics and strong differences of opinion may be encountered.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in education, public administration, or related field AND five (5) years or more at a professional level education, program development, or leadership role in a public or private educational institution.
OR
Three (3) years or more as an Education Programs Coordinator I with the State of Vermont.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree.
