Correspondent lending, the Quality Associate II will review and validate quality results provided by the first and second line of defense. The role’s focus will be to determine if the quality finding is accurate based on published procedures/underwriting guidelines and to formulate a response/rebuttal accordingly. This role will also assist in identifying quality trends, formulating quality related training, and making recommendations to department managers regarding process improvement.
The Quality Associate II directly supports the operational and/or functional execution of department quality strategies. The role works with the Business Owners in testing and verifying quality results and at times implementing projects and initiatives in adherence to the committed deadlines. This role is responsible for identifying opportunities and mitigating issues within Correspondent Home Lending surrounding quality and quality related initiatives. Job scope examples are inclusive of process/guideline review, quality focused projects, training, and change initiatives, with a strong focus on underwriting and quality improvement.
Job Description
- Analyze the root cause of a quality finding, ability to recalculate loan documentation to determine viable income, asset requirements, and housing expenses.
- Use discretion to determine when a quality finding should be disputed and to formulate detailed rebuttal
- Expand knowledge of specialized systems, tools, spreadsheet calculators, process and contractual requirements.
- Use strong analytic and decision-making skills.
- Develop strong commitment to customer service
- Develop proficient in reviewing and understanding Automated Underwriting (AUS) results.
- Conduct a presentation in front of a large audience
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills:
- Reviews and analyzes loan documentation related to a quality finding to ensure accuracy and determine if the loan follows agency, HUD, or Chase Jumbo guidelines.
- Validates the accuracy of documentation deficiencies within a review and communicates findings with clarity to underwriting management and the applicable quality team
- Using gained experiences, formulate a clear and concise written response or rebuttal to a quality related finding.
- On a monthly basis, compile a summary of quality results, build presentation material showing trends, and present during business calls with department managers and staff.
- Effectively communicate using strong verbal and written communication skills while displaying a high degree of teamwork with internal partners. Demonstrates the ability to successfully function in a fully virtual workspace
- Keeps up to date on all credit policy changes that impact underwriting
- Ability to train and/or mentor on underwriting, credit, and/or fraud related topics.
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in residential mortgage underwriting or 10 total years in Mortgage Operations, including underwriting.
- Expertise in reviewing personal and business tax returns and financial analysis
- Proven ability to exceed goals while working in an independent environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in Agency and Jumbo lending guidelines
Unique qualifications, capabilities, and skills:
- Previous Management experience preferred
- Expertise in FHA and/or VA guidelines
- Prior Encompass Experience
- College degree in business and/or equivalent preferred
