As a Renewables Electrical & Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and implementing automation and control systems at hydroelectric, solar, and wind energy facilities. This includes revitalization and modernization of legacy electrical and controls systems to ensure safe and reliable power production. You will have the opportunity to work in picturesque scenic areas of six western states, where you can witness the raw power of nature firsthand.
General Purpose
As an Electrical & Controls Engineer at PacifiCorp, you will maintain, upgrade, optimize, and develop new automation and monitoring systems for Renewables generation. This includes being responsible for developing PLC programs, SCADA, HMIs, Historian, advanced engineering studies, plans, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, and performance assessments associated with the planning, design, licensing, construction, operation, and maintenance of the company’s generation, transmission, distribution, telecommunication, or other utility facilities/systems.
Areas of work most frequently include hydro generation, with occasional support and growth for pumped storage, solar, and wind facilities.
The job will include both engineering analysis/design and engineering project management.
• Project management aspects will include appropriations requests, forecasting, accruing, requisitioning, contract scope authoring, contract management, installation coordination, field commissioning.
• Engineering design frequently includes working with PLCs, SCADA, networking, communication, variable frequency drives, switchgear, low/medium/high voltage breakers, excitation systems, synchronous generators, digital governors, load centers, motors (control & protection).
Experience with Modicon PLCs and GE iFIX preferred.
Responsibilities
• Design, develop, modify, and evaluate systems, process, or facilities to support company objectives, utilizing engineering methods.
• Develop highly complex engineering studies, plans, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, and performance assessments.
• Determine methods and techniques for obtaining results.
• Act as a lead/expert in the work group; train and mentor associate and career level engineers, technicians and drafters.
• Recommend alternative engineering solutions to management to meet business needs.
• Deliver on commitments and manage outside engineering services to accomplish the assigned work.
• Maintain project timelines and budgets.
• Analyze and design engineering methods.
In addition, responsibilities for the Senior II Engineer include the following:
• Design, develop, modify, and evaluate complex systems, process, or facilities to support company objectives, utilizing engineering methods.
• Develop highly complex engineering studies, plans, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, and performance assessments.
Requirements
Requirements for the Senior Engineer include the following:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college/university.
• A minimum of five or more years’ experience in industrial power systems or electric utility power systems, or related professional experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge and application of principles in area of engineering specialty.
• Project management and leadership skills including the ability to work as a team member, to maintain project timelines, budgets, and deliver on commitments.
• Understanding of company’s business, and relevant policies, procedures, and practices.
• Knowledge of applicable federal, state, local laws, regulations and the National Electric Codes.
• Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations while maintaining focus and calmness.
• Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills involving the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements, present alternatives, and recommendations.
