Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Applied Machine Learning Scientist to join our Recommendations and Personalization organization in order to help enable product teams across Etsy to understand, personalize, and rank recommendations that we present to buyers.

As an Applied Scientist, you will work closely with Software Engineers to build custom machine-learning models in the domain application of Recommendations, Computer Vision, and Knowledge Base (Structured data). We are looking for individuals who are product & technology driven, and are passionate about making ML innovations in areas such as: Ranking, Optimization, Natural Language Processing, Deep Learning, Graph Learning, and Reinforcement Learning to help improve the Etsy buyer/seller search experience!

We are considering remote candidates based in the US for this position. Etsy offers three different work modes to meet the variety of needs and preferences of our team: Flex mode for candidates who are able to travel to an office location 4-6 times per month, Remote mode, and Office-based mode! About the Role

In this role you will:

• Use ML to build rich, semantic understanding of the various kinds of content and inventory in Etsy’s marketplace

• Build user models that allow us to better understand the unique interests, tastes, and shopping mission of Etsy’s buyers

• Use representation learning to capture different kinds of relationships between Etsy’s inventory based on categorical, stylistic, or thematic similarity

• Develop models with custom architecture or objective functions that target Etsy-specific problems, including but not limited to personalized ranking, revenue optimization, seller fairness, and seasonality

• Work closely with software engineers, data scientists, product managers, and designers

About You

Ideally you'll bring:

• Successful track record of applying machine learning techniques in addressing real-world problems

• Experience with / working in one of the following fields: reinforcement learning, deep learning, or computer vision

• Shown success developing productionized machine learning systems. You are comfortable with using git, docker, and other tools for writing robust, production-ready code

• Ability to write and manipulate data at a large scale, in distributed environments

Preferred requirements:

• An M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science or related engineering fields, or 3+ years of practical machine learning experience

• Experience using Google Cloud Platform

• Experience in building production search, recommendations, advertising, knowledge base (structured data), or general e-commerce systems.
