JOB SUMMARY
Performs two dimensional (2-D) ultrasonic recordings of internal organs for the diagnosis of disease and study of the malfunction of organs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
· Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations.
· Perform invasive ultrasound procedures, doppler vascular examinations, deep abdominal studies and color-flow ultrasound as required.
· Selects appropriate equipment for use in ultrasound setup, following exam specifications.
· Explains the test to the patient. Instructs and assists the patient in assuming the physical position for examination.
· Able to assess patient pain interfering with imaging procedure; makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.
· Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
· Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
· Selects a transducer and adjusts the equipment controls according to the organ to be examined, the depth of field and other specifications of test.
· Enters test data and patient information into computer of ultrasound equipment to maintain record of test results.
· Moves transducer, by hand, over specified area of the body and observes sound wave display screen to monitor quality of ultrasonic pattern produced.
· Produces images of internal organs and records diagnostic data on PACS.
· Obtains permanent record of internal examination by photographing images of organs shown on the display module or removing the strip printout.
· Evaluates technical quality of films to obtain representative images of pathogenic conditions; processes film in accordance with standard procedures or techniques.
· Discusses test results with supervisor or attending physician when needed.
· Performs all quality control checks, as prescribed.
· Maintains accurate QC logs, service records, etc.
· Maintains records of ultrasound images taken, archiving and de-archiving data as required; calculates, compiles and records data from numerical readings on patient's medical record and related documents.
· Understands and practices proper use of all equipment; never operates equipment inconsistent with manufacturer's instruction.
· Calibrates, cleans and performs routine maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning; cleans and sterilizes instruments, supplies and equipment; stocks and replenish supplies as needed
· Documentation meets current standards and hospital policy
· Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric and general population.
· Perform related duties as assigned by management.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
· Actively checks and responds to emails throughout the day.
· Completes all mandatory education within given time-frame.
· Maintains regulatory requirements.
· Reports to work on time and as scheduled.
· Wears identification while on duty; uses computerized punch time system correctly.
