About the role

ROLE SUMMARY

The Internal Medicine Field Medical Senior Director Team Leader, Cardiovascular & Metabolism – West is responsible for managing and developing a team of field-based Internal Medicine Field Medical Director colleagues in the designated therapeutic area. 

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead, coach, and manage a team of IM FMD colleagues within the designated IM FMD therapeutic area and hold them accountable for delivering on stated goals and objectives.

  • Anticipate and coach the designated IM FMD team colleague to maintain skills, capabilities, and expertise to be effective in the role, particularly non-technical skills including communications skills, digital and AI-enabled tools and resources, and other related offerings that improve the effectiveness of IM FMD team and ability to create extraordinary HCP engagement experiences.

  • Remain up to date on scientific and medical literature and developments within the designated IM FMD TA to a level sufficient to provide effective coaching to direct reports.

  • Conduct PX-related issues for assigned team (such as performance appraisals, salary planning, new colleague selection, colleague development plans, colleague retention, team culture, and conflict resolution) and manage concerns in a timely and compliant manner.

  • As a member of the IM FMD LT, work effectively and seamlessly with other Team Leaders and foster and maintain an IM FMD Group mindset and one IM FMD Group Culture.

  • Assist the IM FMD VP and the IM FMD Strategy and Execution Lead (SEL) as requested with the implementation of FMD tactics and activities and other brand strategic initiatives.

  • Lead IM Field Medical Director and/or cross-functional workstreams as requested by the IM FMD VP, SEL, or Medical Affairs leadership.

  • Partner with Administrative Professional and Operations Excellence staff to ensure effective support is provided to designated IM FMD team.

  • Responsibly manage the designated team’s T & E expenditure and remain within budget.

  • Ensure team activities are conducted in compliance with all policies, guidelines, and regulations, and that team members complete all assigned trainings and all administrative duties within the specified timeframes.

  • Understand, communicate, and adhere to current FDA and other US regulations and guidance that impact interactions with and delivery of medical information to external HCPs.

  • Routinely demonstrate the Pfizer Values and Behaviors and ensure the designated IM FMD team does as well.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a health / science field required.

  • PharmD, PhD, or equivalent terminal doctoral degree (e.g., Doctor of Nursing Practice, Doctor of Physical Therapy) highly preferred.

  • 12+ years of relevant experience required with Bachelor’s degree or 7+ years of relevant experience required with PharmD, PhD, or equivalent terminal degree.

  • Previous Field Medical experience as an individual contributor in the field required.

  • Demonstrated business acumen and experience in developing and successfully implementing action plans with field medical colleagues to achieve stated goals required.

  • Experience appropriately working with commercial (field and brand/HQ) leaders and a strong understanding of Medical Affairs and US commercial processes and cross-functional ways of working.

  • Demonstrated breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, lead with or without authority, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes, and create business impact.

  • Leadership skills demonstrated across different Medical Affairs and Field Medical roles and experiences that show the ability to inspire, motivate, develop, and lead a field-based medical team in a complex, uncertain, volatile, and ambiguous environment that is focused on creating extraordinary HCP experiences and inspiring HCPs to make decisions that change patients’ lives.
