Department/Unit: Outpatient Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) – Burnet Campus
Shift/Hours: Days | 40 hours/week
Schedule Options: 4x10-hour days or 5x8-hour days

Position Summary:
The BMT Search Coordinator RN is a key member of the Outpatient Bone Marrow Transplant team, responsible for coordinating all aspects of the donor search and selection process for patients requiring stem cell transplantation. This highly specialized role combines clinical expertise, meticulous attention to detail, and compassionate patient and family education to ensure the best possible transplant outcomes.
The RN works closely with the multidisciplinary transplant team and national donor registries to identify, evaluate, and manage potential donors through the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) and other registries. This position also provides cross-coverage and coordination for patients receiving Virus Specific T Cells (VSTs).
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate all donor search activities using the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) database and other registries.
- Support patients undergoing blood and marrow transplants and receiving VST (Virus Specific T Cells).
- Collaborate with clinical team to provide education to patients and families on the donor search and selection process, ensuring understanding and emotional support.
- Collaborate with transplant physicians, advanced practice providers, and other team members to ensure timely donor selection and preparation.
- Perform and interpret HLA typing to support donor compatibility assessments.
- Maintain meticulous records for patient outcomes, donor tracking, and regulatory documentation.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives to support program growth and enhance care delivery.
- Provide cross-coverage, coordination, and support for patients receiving VST therapy.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Education- Responsible for educating patients and family members on HLA typing results and unrelated donor search process including consent for formal NMDP search, if applicable. Provides detailed summaries of search results to BMT attending physicians and other multidisciplinary team members. Provides education to multidisciplinary team members including BMT nursing staff on HLA typing, identification of a donor match, and the collection process. Maintains an updated Patient/Family BMT Education Binder to ensure supplementary education materials are updated and current. Assists with the education of BMT team members, including BMT/Outpatient nursing staff, in the program based standard operating procedures (SOPs) and BMT nursing policies, procedures, and guidelines. Participates in educational activities related to cellular therapy and quality management. Resource within the organization and community.
Transplant Search- Responsible for the search coordination for the Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) Division. Facilitates HLA typing for patients and family members. Reviews Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) typing results. Coordinates identification of a matched donor based off family search results or unrelated donor match via the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP). Searches for potential donors via NMDP database, TRAXIS for potential cord matches. Analyzes HLA matches to recipient and reviews findings with BMT attending physicians for identification of donor. Coordinates with NMDP and key stake holders to facilitate collection. Facilitates donor work up process which includes donor clearance, collection of stem cells, and arrival of product. Facilitates recipient work up process in collaboration with outpatient BMT care managers, which includes in depth patient evaluation, timeline of preparative regimen to the delivery
