Senior Software Engineer (Staff) – Austin, TX (Hybrid)

In this role, you will integrate and deploy highly scalable software platforms to meet Western Union’s strategic initiatives. You will constantly pursue and learn innovative solutions, build awareness of open-source technologies and communities that enable high-volume low-latency systems.
Role Responsibilities
- Demonstrate strong capabilities in assessing business needs while providing creative & effective solutions in conformance to emerging standards.
- Maintain effective communication with clients, business and partners as needed.
- Interface and collaborate with other engineers in geographically distributed development centers
- Strong emphasis on customer journey, product quality, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and continuous development
- Design layered application, including user interface, business functionality, and database access
- Apply Agile methodology daily & follow Definition of Done (DoD) process for better quality by maintaining 80% unit & 70% integration test coverage
- Define, design, and implement complex, multi-tier distributed software systems throughout all phases of the software development process
- Develop technical & domain expertise and apply to solving product challenges
- Troubleshoot application issues and coordinate issue resolution with operations, functional, and technical teams
Role Requirements
- Bachelor's/Masters, in Computer Science and Engineering, Math, Physics, Statistics or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in software engineering and architecture experience in a fast-paced corporate environment.
- Strong communication skills with ability to interact with partners globally.
- Comprehensive experience in Java, HTML, XML, Web 2.0, AJAX, REST, JSON Web Services, No-SQL & SQL Databases.
- Experience generating technical requirements, functional solution development, and documentation
- Experience with architecture design concepts and techniques and the ability to communicate and evangelize those concepts to a broad-based team.
- Understanding of various development methodologies, including Agile, Scaled Agile, Traditional Waterfall and Iterative Development Methods (Unified Process and Agile)
- Ability to make the development and architecture teams operate efficiently using best practices, processes and tools.
- Strong problem-solving skills, ability to triage technical issues and drive resolution with cross functional teams. Thrives on working under pressure in a fast-paced multi-project environment.
Pluses include:
- The following experience are considered pluses: EAI products from TIBCO, IBM, Oracle, MuleSoft, WSO2, JMS, Kafka, middleware technologies and event based/Rule based platforms.
- Hands on experience integrating with banks, acquirers and processors in an ecommerce environment.
- Have proven experience in working with a team of engineers and Service providers in a geographically. distributed structure.
- Strong communication skills with ability to interact with partners globally.
