Role: To ensure that spade drill holders with Indexable Carbide pockets are within allowable geometry specifications and tolerances upon return from heat treating and/or other hardening processes. To effectively inspect, straighten and grind center on Holders. Previous CNC experience isn't required.
Responsibilities:
- To effectively inspect holders for proper geometry, primarily on optical comparators, with programmed inspection routines. Must have documented training on the use of the optical comparator.
- To effectively straighten holders found to be out of tolerance due to excessive Total Indicated Run out.
- Must be competent (or demonstrate an ability to be trained) at related operations, i.e. Blast Holders, Press Pins, and Install Blade and Inspect in case support on those operations is unavailable. Previous experience on these operations is preferred but not required.
- To communicate with Holder Department Supervisor (s) to ensure scheduled priorities are being followed and to convey any problems that may cause delays in meeting order due dates.
- To follow inspection plans for all operations performed
- Work with Quality Services Department when discrepancies exist between their inspection results and those of manufacturing.
- Sand blast holders upon their return from heat treat
- Inspect and ream gun drill hole as necessary prior to installing dowel
- Install dowel pin and inspect its height
- Check holder between centers for TIR and slot squareness
- Straighten holders on the Eitel press, if necessary
- Effectively set up and operate center grinder for both standard and special products
- Process orders according to appropriate schedule and/or supervisor’s direction, and properly stage product for the next operation.
- Observe and report any areas that need addressed.
Requirements
- High School Diploma (or equivalent).
- A demonstrated ability to use the optical comparator (previous experience using programmed inspection routines on the comparator is preferred, but not required.
- Ability to accurately use other inspection equipment as needed, including calipers, micrometers, and gages, etc.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints.
- Lifting up to 32 pounds unassisted.
- Ability to be on your feet for the majority of your shift.
- Ability to read indicators.
