The Senior Coding Educator identifies opportunities to improve provider documentation, coding and creates an education plan tailored to each assigned provider. The Senior Coding Educator work assignments involve moderately complex to complex issues where the analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.

The Senior Coding Educator is responsible for reviewing and analyzing internal data and medical records, as well as coordinating educational sessions with providers to enhance quality of care, documentation, and coding practices across multiple assigned provider groups. This role contributes to departmental strategy and process improvements, makes decisions on moderately complex to complex technical issues related to project components with minimal supervision, and demonstrates significant autonomy in setting objectives and determining approaches to assignments while collaborating with various departments within the organization.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Must hold AAPC CPC (Certified Professional Coder) certification

  • 2 years or more experience with ICD-10 CM guidelines

  • Prior experience in provider education

  • Strong knowledge of medical record review

  • Understanding of billing, claims submission, and related processes

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Ability to resolve complex problems

  • Excellent interpersonal, public speaking, and presentation abilities

  • Experience guiding business leaders and teams in process improvement initiatives

  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and projects concurrently

  • Ability to travel to provider offices within region (TX, AR, or OK) upon business discretion

  • Must have reliable transportation

  • This role is part of Humana's driver safety program and therefore requires an individual to have a valid state driver's license and are expected to maintain personal vehicle liability insurance. Individual must carry vehicle insurance in accordance with their residing state minimum required limits, or $25,000 bodily injury per person/$25,000 bodily injury per event /$10,000 for property damage or whichever is higher.

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Previous experience in Medicare Advantage or Value-Based Care

  • AAPC CRC (Certified Risk Adjustment) Certification

  • AAPC CDEO (Certified Documentation Expert Outpatient) Certification
