In the Float Pool, you will work with diverse populations of patients in numerous units, departments and/or locations while learning from many of our best caregivers. As a Patient Companion, you will help facilitate Cleveland Clinic's mission by providing compassionate and top-quality care. In this role, you will assist RNs, physicians, dietitians and other staff in coordinating and fulfilling treatment plans. You will also find a culture that encourages professional growth, educational development, and career success.
A caregiver in this position works nights from 6:45PM – 7:15AM, including every other weekend and 2 holidays per year.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Assist with direct and indirect patient care for one to two patients, such as rooming, vital signs, weight and pulse oximetry. If assigned to a closed unit, provide constant observation only for safety for three to four patients.
Assure patient safety by ensuring that catheters, tubes or other medical equipment have not been removed or disconnected.
Accompany and assist patients at all times, including transport, tests, transfers and ambulation.
Collect patient specimens for laboratory testing.
Identify and report changes in patient status to an RN or physician.
Follow protocols and initiate CPR and other emergency measures as required.
Acknowledge patient concerns and needs and notify appropriate staff for assistance.
Complete all documentation and provide hand-off communication to caregivers responsible for the patient.
