Mercy Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a family-focused, state-of-the-art unit with leading-edge, critical care technology and one of the finest multidisciplinary critical care teams. Caregivers in the ICU provide critical care for patients with life-threatening illnesses or injuries and have either sustained or are at risk of suffering the failure of one or more vital functions, systems, or organs. Patients in the ICU require rigorous care and monitoring to reverse their near-fatal conditions and temporarily support them while they recover. Types of procedures on this unit include intubation, TTM, CRRT, bronchoscopy, ICP monitoring, organ donation, and post-operative care. A caregiver in this position works nights, 7:00pm – 7:00am.  

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

• Provide direct nursing care. 

• Implement, monitor, evaluate, update and revise patient care plans.  

• Monitor, record, document and communicate patients’ conditions.  

• Administer prescribed medications and treatments. 

• Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.  

• Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs. 

• Educate patients and their families.   

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

• Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing 

• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) 

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) 

• Advanced Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or willing to obtain within one year of employment  

• One year of current acute care RN experience. Will c
