WPMT FOX43 wants to put you in the center of the action. Digital Assignment Editors are leaders in our newsroom who urgently and aggressively cover breaking and developing stories. This position is for a person who is passionate about local news and connecting with people while creating engaging digital content.
This position embodies WPMT’s vision of “one content team,” meaning broadcast and digital share equal stage.
You will be creating compelling content, organizing and writing scripts and updating stories on digital platforms with a primary focus on local websites, mobile apps, and social media platforms.. You will join a combined assignment desk and digital team that manages newsroom assignments and oversees the quality of FOX43 stories across all platforms. We believe in constant learning, but the ideal candidate will have solid writing ability, grounded objectivity and news judgment, and the ability to work a flexible schedule.

Responsibilitites: 
•    Produce engaging content through digital articles, videos, photo galleries, social media, push alerts, live streams and interactive elements
•    Gather and share story updates, tips and information with the WPMT Newsroom
•    Review and respond to news releases, news tips, emails, user-generated content and social media messages to identify unique, local and engaging content
•    Do all necessary reporting efforts to turn information into digital content, such as make calls, get pictures or video to support a story, research and confirm information, etc. 
•    Focus on accuracy and balance in stories through editing and working with reporters
•    Work with urgency to publish and broadcast breaking news and update as needed
•    Be a leader in editorial meetings and conversations, including pitching stories
•    Use digital and social analytics to inform editorial decisions
•    Monitor social media for breaking news, find interesting stories, track trends and report findings to newsroom
•    Work with digital managers, newsroom leaders and all producers to coordinate the development and distribution of content across all editorial platforms
•    Collaborate with other TEGNA stations, FOX affiliates and other partners to search trending content and publish compelling stories, photos and video from our corporate network across web, mobile and social media platforms
•    Optimize the user experience by tracking live web metrics and user experience best practices.
•    Apply Search Engine Optimization (SEO) best practices to every piece of content.
•    Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• BS/BA in related discipline preferred or equivalent years of experience
• A great attitude and willingness to learn new skills
• Skill with content management systems, hypertext markup language.(HTML), audio editing, image editing, cascading style sheets (CSS) and social networking.
• Strong desire to focus on web-based content.
• Creativity, good people skills and ability to handle deadline pressure and multi-tasking.
• Knowledge and experience with still-image photography using digital cameras/handheld video cameras a plus.
• Knowledge of how to use and update social media platforms.
• Photo editing skills with ability to manipulate, crop, enhance images as needed for publishing on website.
• Basic video editing skills a plus.
