About the role
Position Summary
The Treatment Nurse is responsible for providing direct and consultative care to residents with wounds, ostomies, and skin conditions. This role ensures optimal wound healing outcomes through comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of wound care. The Treatment Nurse collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to promote best practices in skin and wound management in accordance with facility policies and state and federal regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assess, monitor, and document the condition of residents' wounds, pressure ulcers, and skin integrity.
- Perform wound care treatments, dressing changes, and preventative measures as prescribed by the physician and in accordance with the care plan.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on clinical evaluations and resident needs.
- Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely documentation in medical records and treatment logs.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, physical therapists, dietitians, and other staff to support comprehensive wound care.
- Educate staff, residents, and families on wound prevention and care techniques.
- Monitor the effectiveness of treatment and adjust care plans accordingly.
- Ensure compliance with infection control protocols, OSHA standards, and facility policies.
- Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities related to skin and wound care.
- Attend and contribute to care plan meetings and clinical rounds as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong clinical assessment, organizational, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Education & Experience
- Current and valid RN or LVN/LPN license.
- Certification in wound care (e.g., WCC, WOCN, or equivalent) preferred or willing to obtain within a specified period.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in wound care, preferably in a long-term care or SNF setting.
