Position Overview
Power your future with Qualus in our Field Engineering department as a Protection & Control Field Project Technologist! We're looking for a hands-on individual to lead complex electrical utility projects. You'll manage the day-to-day execution of projects focusing on transmission, distribution equipment, and relay protection upgrades, ensuring they're delivered efficiently and to the highest standards. This role requires being the primary client interface, from initial assessments and proposals to managing all communication and ensuring project compliance.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and submit planned outage requests in accordance with approved outage coordination plans and project sequencing requirements.
- Act as the primary client interface, from initial assessment and qualification of project opportunities to handling all correspondence, inquiries, and submittals. This includes conducting site walkthroughs to define scope and revisions and assisting with or generating proposals.
- Review construction drawings, bills of material (BOMs), and project documentation to procure Protection & Control (P&C) equipment for installation within substation control houses.
- Develop and maintain wiring sheets, termination documentation, and as-built records for protection and control systems.
- Provide field leadership and technical direction to wiremen and installation personnel during construction and pre-commissioning activities.
- Verify protection schemes and zones of protection to ensure proper relay coordination and equipment tripping functions in accordance with system design.
- Drive project execution and resource coordination by maintaining and overseeing schedules, collaborating with the Operations Team to secure necessary equipment and labor, and assisting with onsite work and material procurement as needed.
- Coordinate with engineering, construction, testing, and operations personnel to identify and resolve installation and functional issues prior to commissioning.
- Perform PT/CCVT secondary circuit inspections, testing, and checkout to verify proper installation and functionality.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSET) from an ABET university, with an emphasis on power systems preferred.
- Navy Nuclear experience (attending “A” school), experience as an EWS (Engineering Watch Supervisor) or PPWS (Propulsion Plant Watch Supervisor), or experience as an Electricians Mate or Electronics Technician accepted in lieu of BS degree.
- 0-2years’ of relevant post education experience in an electrical engineering capacity, with experience leading large complex projects in the power industry preferred.
- Experience in reading and interpreting One Line, AC & DC Elementary and Wiring diagrams
- Proficient computer, computer network, and Android/iPhone app skills: Microsoft Office suite of software, mapping drive letters for server connections, obtaining, installing, and connecting handheld device apps to ‘The Cloud’ or other locations as required.

- Ability to read company manuals and reports, workplace rules and procedures; speak with poise and confidence, using correct English.
