Position Title: Human Resources Generalist

Corps/Department: The Salvation Army Divisional Headquarters                                     

Reports To: Human Resource Manager

FSLA Status: Full-Time/ 40 hours per week; Non-Exempt.

Pay: $20 - $24 per hour

Scope of Position: The Human Resource Generalist will assist the Human Resource Manager and Director with performing the daily functions of the Human Resource Department. Duties include administrative tasks, such as assisting payroll, data entry, assisting employees and recruitment. This position includes recruiting, assessing applications and resumes, interviewing, hiring, record keeping and enforcing company policies and practices.

 

Education and Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration (preferred).
  • One year experience in Human Resource or any related administrative tasks (preferred).

 

Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and directions.
  • Able to present him/herself in a poised and professional manner.
  • Excellent organizational skills; detail oriented, accurate and precise.
  • Knowledge of Salvation Army practices and organization (preferred).
  • UKG/UltiPro experience (preferred).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Valid Alaska Driver’s License required.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training. This includes creating required local organizational trainings and carrying out training on pre-approved training materials such as anti-harassment training, etc.
  • Assesses resumes and assists with recruiting, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and create or modify competencies required for positions.
  • Conducts or acquires background checks, references, and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Responsible for onboarding and the orientation of new employees.
  • Assists in designing, interpreting, and implementing policies to ensure compliance with Salvation Army regulations and procedures, as well as labor law requirements.
  • Analyzes and assesses data to make recommendations on business operations - including analysis of trends, best practices, incorporating regulatory changes, and employment law.
  • Manages projects or major assignments related to the operations of the business.
  • Assists with routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Assists in the roll out of performance appraisal actions.
  • Assist in handling employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations as requested.
  • Handles unemployment claims and inquiries from the Department of Labor.
  • Learns and maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommends best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

 

Work Environment: Work is performed in a heated and ventilated office setting. The noise level is low. Exposure to extreme weather environments is not a condition of this workplace setting.

 

Physical Requirements: Speaking, sitting, bending, walking, pushing, pulling, standing, kneeling, stooping, reaching, handling, fingering, climbing, and balancing. Hearing and visual acuity must be within normal limits. Lifting and moving objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.
