RTP-Research Fellow

We are seeking a motivated postdoctoral clinical Research Fellow to join Mayo Clinic's Center for Individualized Medicine in a highly collaborative translational research program. The focus of this position is facilitating clinical research in support of translation of novel therapies into clinical practice for patients with severe rare genetic diseases who are without a cure or adequate disease management. This person will be a part of a multidisciplinary team focused on novel drug development and clinical trial readiness. The specific goal of this position will be to work with our research and clinical teams to execute a retrospective, FDA regulatory-compliant, disease natural history study (NHS) for autosomal dominant leukodystrophy (ADLD). 

ADLD is an ultra-rare genetic adult-onset white-matter disease of the brain that causes neurological disability and early death. Currently, there is no available cure or disease modifying therapy. We plan to conduct a NHS to better understand the clinical disease manifestations and progression. The ultimate goal of this study is to leverage the NHS data as the comparator data for future clinical trials in lieu of placebo control.

A NHS is an observational research approach that tracks the progression of a disease over time without therapeutic intervention. These studies are particularly vital for rare diseases, capturing onset, progression, and impact on quality of life. They inform future research and help in the development of treatments. The data will be a gold standard providing a comprehensive, longitudinal dataset of ADLD progression, which is essential for benchmarking and guiding research efforts globally.

This person is expected to have a medical background to be able to collect clinical data from different medical systems and enter it in a REDCap database following standardized procedures. They will be working closely with the Global Leukodystrophy Initiative (GLIA), an academic consortium, and lead clinicians and investigators at Mayo Clinic for this study.

•   Current curriculum vitae with bibliography
•   Proof of MD or MD/PhD degree or equivalent doctoral degree deemed relevant by the program 
•   Diploma or final transcript (with English translation, if applicable) or a letter from your university's Registrar office indicating you have fulfilled all doctoral program requirements and are eligible to graduate.

Research Fellow is appropriate for individuals who have completed no more than one prior postdoctoral fellowship, at Mayo Clinic or elsewhere.
