The team you'll be part of
The Optical Subsystems Research Group within Smart Network in Bell Labs advances the state of the art in high-speed and high-capacity optical communications systems and their underlying subsystems Hands-on experience with high-speed optics and optoelectronics; experience in optical subsystem and device design and experimentation; experience in software-defined networking environments, and digital signal processing are desired.Education Recommendations
Currently a candidate for a bachelor’s degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a related field with an accredited school in the US.
As a summer intern, you will work on research projects addressing the next generation of high-capacity fiber-optic communication, and advanced monitoring and fiber sensing systems.
As part of our team, you will:
- Perform optical characterizations of fibers and components using our advanced characterization tools.
- Build and extend existing fiber-optic test beds, to test new ideas and concepts
- Learn and apply digital signal processing techniques to evaluate optical link capacity
You have:
- Basic programming skills
- Basic background in communication technology
It would be nice if you also had:
- Experience with Python programming is a big plus
- Experience with fiber optic communication-system test beds
- Experience with FPGAs or GPUs as computing units for digital signal processing
