Job Description

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Postdoctoral Scholar, (Soft Robotics, Electroactive Polymers, and/or Materials Science) College of Engineering [R0141532].

*Revised* ROLE of the POSITION

The Mechanical Engineering Department within the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering at UNLV invites applications for two full-time, 12-month, Postdoctoral Scholars of Mechanical Engineering commencing June 1, 2024. These positions are renewable for up to one and half additional years (2.5 years total), pursuant to availability of funds. The postdoctoral scholars will work on research topics related to Soft Robotics, Electroactive Polymers, and/or Materials Science, with an emphasis on soft materials. These positions will be funded under the UNLV-Development of TPU-Based Polymer Sensors research grant ending February 11, 2025; and the UNLV Bioinspired Multi-Functional Soft Materials for Naval Applications research grant ending May 31, 2027.

*Two (2) full-time Posdoctoral Scholar positions available.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

These positions require a PhD Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science and Engineering, or related field from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).  Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Prior research experience in soft-robotics, soft sensor and actuator materials and/or electroactive polymer as well as a good publication history are desired.

SALARY

Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding.
