Department Overview
The Gibbs Laboratory in the Biomedical Engineering Department at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon, USA is recruiting a Research Assistant II to work on an NIH funded project to develop novel near infrared fluorophores to improve nerve-sparing surgical procedures. The successful candidate will have a background in biomedical engineering, organic chemistry, and molecular imaging. The position will require a variety of laboratory skills including small molecule synthesis and purification, structure and photophysical property characterization, mouse handling and surgeries, macroscopic fluorescence imaging and image analysis. We are looking for skilled, motivated scientists to join our multidisciplinary team to contribute to this highly translational project. The Gibbs laboratory is well support by the NIH and engages in a range of studies to develop novel fluorescence imaging technologies to improve medicine.

Function/Duties of Position
- Small-molecule fluorophore synthesis and purification
- Structure and photophysical property characterization
- Macroscopic fluorescence imaging & image analysis
- Attendance and presentation at lab meetings, contributions to publications as requested (writing, figures, data), contributions to applications for funding as requested (writing, figures, data)
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's in relevant field OR
- Associate's AND 3 years of relevant experience OR
- 4 years of relevant experience OR
- Equivalent combination of training and experience
- Organic synthesis, Animal handling, fluorescence imaging
- Organic chemistry, analytic chemistry, Macroscopic imaging, animal handling, animal surgery
