Monitor assigned patient(s) via video to enhance patient safety and inform appropriate staff of activity that places the patient(s) at risk. Document patient(s) activity. Perform extensive dysrhythmia interpretation and monitoring for all portable cardiac telemetry and hard wire monitored patients. Utilize effective communication with multiple nursing units and interdisciplinary team members.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High school diploma or equivalent

1. Successful completion of assigned training and education with passing scores on all exams/tests
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Graduate of Technical Education Program or Medical Assistant Program.
2. Obtain certification in HeartSaver OR Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Perform cardiac monitoring for telemetry and hard wire monitored patients that are routed to the centralized Telemetry Surveillance Unit. Each Cardiac Monitor Technician visually monitors between 32 and 50 patients per station.
2. Complete quarterly competencies and annual required CBLs within dedicated timeframe.
3. Monitor, identify changes, address alarms to identify any abnormal heart rhythm variation, and report patient’s cardiac rhythm, and/or life-threatening cardiac events to medical and nursing staff.
4. Analyze, interpret, and measure ECG strip waveform displays and document each patient’s rhythm every four hours, via Wave Strip Export, along with any changes and report these changes according to established guidelines and protocols.
5. Monitor centralized pulse oximetry for general pediatric population and adult Orthopedic patients when indicated.
6. Maintain log that indicates name of nurse and extension of his/her wireless phone assigned to each monitored patient each shift. Informs appropriate nurse of any dysrhythmia via his/her work phone.
7. Utilize Epic/Telemetry Dashboard to ensure accuracy of patient Admissions/Discharges/Transfers.
8. Accurately obtain/enter/delete patient information from the Telemetry Surveillance Center at admission, discharge and transfer using the A/D/T system.
9. Make use of standardized event report sheet during shift/handoff to ensure proper detailed information is relayed.
10. Assemble a telemetry pack, battery, and electrodes for nursing staff. Ensure batteries are charged and installed properly.
11. Assist in indirect patient care by managing inventory, maintaining equipment cleanliness, and assignment of certain patient equipment items in the TSC.
12. Participate in bi-weekly battery count inventory to help maintain/keep track of equipment.
13. Monitor equipment and assists with trouble shooting of malfunctioning equipment with proper notification (i.e.: Health Care Technology Supervisor and/or Patient Monitoring Supervisor/Manager)
14. Assure patient safety is first and foremost by identifying and prioritizing tasks by importance.
15. Courteously answer telephone with professional etiquette, always identifying self and department.
16. Relay accurate and clear message to appropriate receiver with documentation in a timely manner.
17. Perform video monitoring of patients who meet the video monitoring criteria and deliver/install wireless cameras.
18. Document patient’s interventions in the electronic medical record (EMR) every four hours.
19. Communicate any imminent signs of patient risk to assigned staff via the alarm system and/or wireless phone
20. Enter and delete patients from the video monitoring system upon admission, discharge, and transfer.
