Project Coordinator, Shelter Coordinator/School Support & Training

 

SUMMARY

Under general supervision, leads efforts to improve outcomes for students in emergency shelter, including providing direct school support, and coordinating and supporting district level priorities and initiative.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: 

 

      Provides support for implementation of Homeless/Highly Mobile (HHM) Department mission and vision.

      Coordinates planning and implementation of projects including scope, goals and deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders. Specific project responsibilities include:

      Partners with emergency shelter and transitional housing providers to ensure that students and families have barriers removed to full participation in their education.

      Maintains awareness of external resources related to emergency shelter and connects students, families and staff to needed support.

      Leads McKinney Vento student placement decisions for the Enrollment team, ensuring compliance with federal regulations and equitable access to education.

      Collaborates with the Transportation Coordinator and the Transportation Department on ensuring that students have access to reliable transportation and methods for troubleshooting challenges.

      Supports school social workers in their role as the HHM lead at their site

      Advises school teams in developing and implementing practices that support full participation and improved outcomes for students in emergency shelter.

      Communicates and builds relationships with schools, including educators and school leaders.

      Designs and leads training and support for new and returning school social workers into their role as the site lead for supporting students in temporary/transitional living situations.

      Partners with other HHM staff and other departments on district-wide practices that improve outcomes for students experiencing homelessness..

      Coordinates efforts to involve staff, students and families in the development and implementation of site-specific activities and programs to promote educational stability and equitable opportunities for success for students in transition.

 

      Creates and implements communication plans for projects to keep all stakeholders up-to-date on project progress. 

      Creates follow up plans for evaluation of implemented projects. 

      Collaborates with outside partners. 

      Develops and delivers project-related training for school staff and supports additional professional development opportunities with external partners as needed.

      Continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders; identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the project
