COUNTY OF HAMILTON, INDIANA
POSITION: Support Staff II
DEPARTMENT: Probation
WORK SCHEDULE: 25 hours per week, M-F
STATUS: Part-time
FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt
HOURLY RATE: $19.00 per hour

Incumbent serves as Part-time Support Staff II for the Hamilton County Probation Department, responsible for observing drug screens and providing administrative support to department personnel.
DUTIES:
Observes and collects drug screen samples, ensuring client signs and initials all drug screen paperwork, including the lab form and drug screen identification form and sample provided meets the minimum amount needed, verifying a temperature reading, lid is securely fastened, and the sample is placed in the freezer.
Notifies Deputies when client is found with a device used to alter a drug screen sample and places the device in a sample bag and delivers to Deputies.
Walks behind clients while escorting them to and from the drug screen room.
Delivers appropriate paperwork to probation officers after the completion of a drug screen.
Packs and prepares samples to be transported to the toxicology lab as required.
Keeps track of drug screen supplies and informs the office administrator when supplies are running low and need to order.
Communicates all requests for time off and/or adjustments to schedule as required.
Performs related duties as assigned.
I. JOB REQUIREMENTS AND DIFFICULTY OF WORK:
High school diploma or HSE.
Working knowledge of department policies, procedures, and related terminology, and basic understanding of criminal justice system, and ability to apply such knowledge to a variety of interrelated tasks.
Working knowledge of Department exposure reporting procedures, and ability to protect oneself from contracting infectious diseases by avoiding high risk environments and by having knowledge of and utilizing universal health precautions.
Working knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling and punctuation, and ability to prepares correspondence and reports.
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, probationers, other law enforcement agencies, attorneys, counselors, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities.
Ability to type with speed and accuracy, and properly operate standard office equipment, including computer, printer, telephone, copier, fax machine, and calculator.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, and appropriately respond to constructive criticism.
Ability to work alone and with others in a team environment with minimum supervision, and maintain appropriate, respectful interrelationships with co-workers, work on several tasks at the same time, often under time pressure, and complete assignments effectively amidst frequent distractions and interruptions.
Ability to competently serve the public with diplomacy and respect, including occasional encounters with irate/hostile persons.
