What you will do

Are you passionate about using machine learning to shape the future of healthcare? We are looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join our dynamic team! The Decision Sciences team at Amgen plays a pivotal role as a strategic partner to Commercial leadership, offering data-backed insights crucial for driving commercial success.

In this role, you will empower data scientists to create and deploy cutting-edge machine learning algorithms by creating scalable frameworks, state-of-the-art tools, and efficient code. You will own the design and architecture of machine learning and orchestration systems, collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate these solutions into production environments seamlessly. Additionally, you will design models with monitoring and performance evaluation in mind to ensure optimal functionality.

As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer, you will mentor junior engineers and data scientists, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement. You'll stay at the forefront of technological advancements, ensuring our approaches are innovative and effective. Your technical expertise will optimize code for efficiency and scalability, while your communication skills will bridge the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders. With a deep understanding of healthcare data, you will ensure our solutions are impactful and fit for purpose. Other responsibilities will include:

• Provide technical support for the end-to-end lifecycle of machine learning projects, from ideation and prototyping to deployment and maintenance, ensuring timely and successful delivery of high-impact solutions.
• Enable data scientists to develop and implement advanced machine learning algorithms by providing robust frameworks, tools, and infrastructure support.
• Lead the design and architecture of machine learning systems and pipelines, ensuring scalability, robustness, and efficient data processing.
• Optimize existing code for efficiency and scalability, ensuring modularity and maintainability in machine learning projects.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, software engineers, and product managers, to integrate machine learning solutions into production environments.
• Mentor and guide junior machine learning engineers and data scientists, providing technical leadership and fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
• Conduct thorough research and stay current with the latest advancements in machine learning, artificial intelligence, and related technologies to inform and drive innovation within the team.
• Collaborate on data acquisition and preprocessing strategies, working with data engineers to ensure high-quality data for model training and evaluation.
• Communicate complex technical concepts and results to non-technical stakeholders, ensuring clear understanding and alignment with business objectives.
• Supporting ACCP continuous improvement activities.

Proven experience and skills needed:

• Doctorate degree.
• OR Master’s degree and 3 years of machine learning experience.
• OR Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of machine learning experience.
• University Degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, healthcare or related field.
• Fluency in English, both in written and oral communication.
