Position Summary

This position greets patients upon their arrival. Duties include check-in, check-out, scheduling appointments, ensuring insurance is verified and referrals are obtained, ensuring appropriate registration information is entered correctly and in a timely manner. Assists with maintaining patient flow in a fast paced clinical office at the Pulmonary Function Lab/ Heart Station located in St. Louis Children’s Hospital.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Obtains insurance information from patients and counsels alternative ways for financial assistance.
• Registers all new patients, assisting with form completion.
• Reviews schedule for new patients, updating when necessary.
• Retrieves chart, prepares schedules and assists with patient/office workflow as required.
• Calls patients with appointment time reminder, obtaining insurance information and referral forms.
• Explains billing process to patients, answers incoming inquiries from patients and third-party payers.
• Assists patients with insurance questions regarding the billing process.
• Assists staff with sending out reminder cards and other scheduling duties; assists with basic account maintenance activities.
• Schedules patient appointments.
• Files patient paperwork in Epic chart.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

• One to two years of experience in a medical office setting or related customer service/office experience.
• Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills.
• Working knowledge of insurance and financial options.
• Ability to prioritize with effective organization skills.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent high school certification with three years of experience in billing systems and third-party claims and/or experience in a medical office setting or related customer service/office experience or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
• Basic Life Support certification. (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements.). BLS certification must be obtained within one month of hire date.

Salary Range

$17.34 - $25.40 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
