The Kang Research Group in the Division of Health Outcomes at The University of Texas College of Pharmacy invites applicants for a postdoctoral fellowship aimed at preparing independent academic researchers in health outcomes research and health disparities.

The selected fellow will work primarily with Dr. Hyeun Ah Kang, whose research focuses on assessing health policy impacts on vulnerable populations, evaluating treatment and guideline adherence, analyzing health care resource utilization and costs, identifying predictors of clinical and economic outcomes, and examining health disparities using large, real-world databases (e.g., Texas Medicaid, Merative™ MarketScan®, the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey [MEPS], and the Texas Cancer Registry, with a particular focus on sickle cell disease, opioid utilization, and cancer disparities). The fellow will be highly involved in research design, data acquisition, data analysis, manuscript preparation, and grant writing. Specific research areas include assessing the impact of health care policies on vulnerable populations, comparing medication utilization and outcomes, and identifying factors associated with clinical and economic health outcomes.

Position may require additional hours as needed and requested.

Responsibilities

  • Research design, data acquisition, data analysis, and manuscript preparation to include assessing the impact of health care polices on vulnerable populations, comparing medication utilization and outcomes, describing the treatment patterns of opioid use disorder, and identifying factors associated with health disparities in cancer screening, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship

  • Develop skills in health outcomes, health care policy, and quantitative research

  • Attend seminars and conferences, with opportunities to publish and present study results at professional meetings

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent degree from an accredited doctoral program in health outcomes research, health economics, public health, or a related field within 3 years

  • Excellent database management skills including quantitative data analysis skills (SAS, R, or STATA preferred)

  • Able to work independently and in teams

  • Excellent communication and writing skills

  • Highly motivated with a great work ethic

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with large health care data (such as public and/or private health insurance claims data, electronic health records, registry data, or national survey data)

Salary Range

$55,000 + depending on qualifications
