Basic Purpose
Primary responsibility of programming radio subscriber assets for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) Division. Secondary responsibility of programming radio subscriber assets for most entities on the OKWIN system.
Typical Functions
The functions performed in this job family will vary by level, unit and organization, but may include the following:
Assist the ROC Supervisor by providing recommendations regarding existing OKWIN entities' overall usage of communication assets functioning on the OKWIN System.
Establishes and maintains inventory records of OKWIN entities' communication assets in DPS web-based database applications.
It includes documenting all procedures associated with planning and coordinating radio codeplug/TalkGroup layouts for review and approval by both the governing authority (DPS) and the requesting entity for the ongoing support of radio asset operations.
May take the lead of organizing regional programming projects for OKWIN entities requesting TalkGroup changes to their radio assets.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies
Ability is required to install and maintain telecommunications systems and equipment; to provide training and assistance to users; to analyze and resolve systems problems; to communicate effectively; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; to work independently and perform a wide range of tasks and activities in administering a telecommunications network or operating system. Knowledge of trunked radios systems. Knowledge of various vendor subscriber radio programming software to include Motorola, Harris, Tait, Kenwood, and EF Johnson. Competent at using computers and Microsoft 365 applications with emphasis on Excel. Comfortable working with customers and vendors.
Education and Experience
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of two (2) years of experience in telecommunications or radio programming, maintenance, repair or operations or eighteen semester hours of college in Computer Science. Military experience in radio communication equipment maintenance.
