What will you do?We are looking for a Full Stack Engineer to develop and maintain front-end components and back-end services that power the VA.gov platform and VA Health & Benefits mobile app. This role is perfect for someone passionate about accessible, scalable, and secure government digital services. Important Note:This is a full-time position contingent on contract award by our client, with a defined performance period of up to one year. Responsiblities
- Develop and maintain full-stack applications that support the VA Design System and Forms Library, ensuring a seamless user experience for Veterans and their families.
- Build and optimize React-based front-end components that align with the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) and VA Design System (VADS) standards.
- Implement RESTful APIs and microservices to support scalable and reusable back-end functionality.
- Ensure performance, security, and accessibility compliance (Section 508, WCAG 2.2 AA, Mobile Content Accessibility Guidelines - MCAG) across web and mobile platforms.
- Work with React, React Native, Node.js, TypeScript, Express.js, and PostgreSQL (or similar technologies) to develop scalable solutions.
- Maintain and optimize infrastructure on AWS or other cloud environments, ensuring reliability and security.
- Collaborate with designers, UX researchers, and other engineers in an agile development environment to continuously improve the VA’s digital platforms.
- Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and knowledge sharing to support a culture of engineering excellence.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, plus at least three years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Experience in full-stack software development.
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, React, and Node.js.
- Experience with server-side frameworks like Express.js, NestJS, or similar.
- Understanding of database management (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MongoDB) and writing efficient queries.
- Familiarity with API development (REST, GraphQL) and authentication (OAuth, JWT, SAML).
- Knowledge of cloud services (AWS, Azure, or GCP), CI/CD pipelines, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Commitment to writing clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
