Job Summary
Provide Senior level Electrical Engineering support for safe, effective, and reliable power plant operation. This role will provide support to a combination of generation facilities including existing installations, new construction, upgrades, contract support, and site acquisitions. Engineer may be working with multiple types of power generation ranging from traditional base load fossil fuel, simple and combined cycle peaking, wind, solar, and utility scale battery systems.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide Senior level Electrical Engineering support in power plant maintenance, operation, construction, and support.
- Demonstrates good engineering judgment.
- Detailed knowledge and ability to apply applicable standards including IEEE/ANSI, IEC, NEC, NFPA
- Extensive experience in specifying, maintaining, troubleshooting, procuring, and managing installation of critical electrical equipment including but not limited to:
- High, medium, and low voltage electrical equipment (MCC’s, switchgear, relays, breakers, cable systems etc.)
- Transformers: GSU, AUX, Startup, Substation, dry-type and oil filled, and subsystems including surge arrestors, bushings, bushing monitors, DGA analysis, oil preservation systems
- DC back up systems, including chargers and battery systems
- Small to large Inverters, LCIs, VFDs
- Able to perform and/or review engineering calculations, such as: load flow, short circuit, harmonics, equipment sizing, large motor starting, grounding, transient stability, electromagnetic transients, Arc flash analysis (ETAP), transformer sizing (GUS, AUX, SS…), protective relay settings, protection coordination, battery, and charger sizing, etc.
- Ability to read, interpret, create, and revise plant drawings, creating grounding, power, single-line, three-line, and motor control drawings with a clear understanding of protective devices and coordination techniques
- Acts in a lead engineer role on power generation projects
- Communicates regularly with senior management and provide status updates on engineering design and project activities.
- Delegate, mentor and supervise work of younger engineers, technicians, specialists, plant and operations personnel
- Support and/or lead critical programs including Arc Flash, NERC, critical maintenance directives, compliance activities, and others as directed
- Create man hour budgets, and schedule for projects and proposals.
- Provide technical guidance, support and insight in multi-year outage forecasting, maintenance and upgrade prioritization, and budgetary development
- Actively coordinate, include, provide leadership, and encourage others, maintaining a safe, collaborative, supportive, inclusive relationship with all team members, associates, clients, and contract personnel encountered in the performance of your duties.
- Provide around the clock emergency support, as needed, including video and teleconferencing, emergency travel throughout the US and abroad.
- Ability to be self-motivated, to seek solutions, and reach out to key stakeholders to offer support and guidance answers without being directed to do so
- Typically supports multiple projects on the very complex technical challenges
- Provide detailed technical support and leadership in Root Cause Analysis investigations and corrective action development.
