Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is seeking to hire a qualified Internal Affairs Investigator to join our law enforcement team. The Internal Affairs Investigator is responsible for conducting thorough and objective investigations into alleged misconduct, policy violations, or criminal activities within ADCRR. This role will work closely with department leadership to ensure transparency, accountability and maintain a high standard of integrity within ADCRR.

Job Duties:

-Collects, preserves, and reviews documentation and items of relevance to the inquiry
-Conducts extensive research and reviews of confidential documentation and reports
-Impartially interviews victims, witnesses and principals
-Follows up on information obtained during interviews and documentation reviews to obtain accurate findings of fact
-Composes accurate, timely and impartial reports and findings of facts
-Retrieves and/or inputs information and data into computerized databases/systems
-Testifies in administrative hearings and civil court
-Confers with outside law enforcement agencies to obtain additional information or follow up on information obtained during interview/search
-Attends meetings and/or provides status to administrative staff/supervisor
-Drive on State business
-Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

-Federal, State, local Civil Rights laws and cases affecting staff, inmates, criminal/administrative investigations, civil rights and background investigations
-ADCRR policies and procedures
-Modern investigative principles and techniques
-Evidence preservation and collection
-Interrogation and interviewing techniques
-Diagramming, legal research techniques, first aid techniques
-Prisons and prison operations
-English to include proper grammar, spelling and punctuation
-Personal computer and software

Skill in:

-Application of modern investigation techniques
-Use of photography and electronic recording equipment
-Taking statements accurately
-Recording and preservation of relevant material
-Testifying and making presentations in court
-Management of inmates
-Observation and memory
-Diagramming and recording events accurately
-Using personal computers and associated software

Ability to:

-Conduct thorough reviews of documentation
-Interview individuals to obtain truthful statements
-Record events and information accurately
-Compose professional, accurate, concise, detailed reports and findings of facts
-Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with other law enforcement agencies
-Effectively communicate verbally and in writing

Selective Preference(s):

Minimum of five years of experience working within ADCRR; and demonstrated ability and/or experience conducting investigative work; experience as a Correctional Sergeant or Correctional Officer III working in the Special Services Unit (SSU) performing investigative work

Other Law Enforcement experience in complex, sensitive investigations, or Internal affairs experience

Pre-Employment Requirements:
