About the role

MAJOR FUNCTION:

The Director of Surgical Services is responsible for overseeing and managing the strategic, operational, and financial performance of perioperative and procedural services across multiple locations (as assigned). This role partners with surgeons, anesthesia, nursing leadership, and hospital/health system administration to ensure safe, efficient, high-quality patient care and the achievement of organizational goals.

The Director provides nursing and operational leadership across the perioperative continuum and procedural platform, including Pre-op, Operating Rooms (OR)/Procedure Rooms, PACU, Sterile Processing Department (SPD), Endoscopy, Cardiac Cath Lab/Interventional Services, and Ambulatory Surgery Center(s) (as assigned). The Director is accountable for staffing, throughput and capacity, quality outcomes, patient experience, physician relations, and regulatory readiness, while driving standardization and continuous improvement across sites.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience:

  • Masters degree in nursing, healthcare administration, business, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 5 years RN experience with a minimum 3-5 years of progressive experience in perioperative/procedural services management, including multi-department oversight (e.g., OR, Pre-Op, PACU, Endoscopy, Cath Lab, Ambulatory Surgery, SPD), quality outcomes, staffing, and budget accountability; multi-site leadership preferred.
  • Progressive leadership experience in perioperative and procedural services across a broad platform (e.g., OR/Procedure Rooms, Pre-Op, PACU, SPD, Endoscopy, Cath Lab/Interventional Services, Ambulatory Surgery) and preferably across multiple locations required.
  • Experience with clinical systems and technology required.
  • Experience in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives required.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets and resources effectively.

Certification/ Licensure:

  • NJ Registered Nurse license required.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations and standards.
  • Deep understanding of Joint Commission and/or DNV standards
  • Deep understanding of NJ Board of Nursing standards
  • Leadership skills that foster engaged and motivated staff

  • Familiarity with electronic medical records
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
