About the Role:
Reporting to the Manager, Undergraduate Programs, the Academic Advisor is responsible for advising students on program requirements and monitoring progress of students in the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and Bachelor of Accounting (BAcc) programs with a primary emphasis on the BBA Double Degree and Exchange programs. The incumbent will also support admissions and readmissions, as well as adjudicating and monitoring the registration system.
The Academic Advisor will:
Perform student academic advising primarily for the Bachelor of Business Double Degree and Exchange programs;
Work with our International partners with respect to academic programming for all Inbound and Outbound BBA Double Degree and Exchange students and to ensure the Undergraduate calendar and program plans are up to date;
Collaborate with the Student Engagement team and Brock International on the planning and coordination of the orientation, pre-departure and registration sessions for the BBA Double Degree and Exchange programs;
Review student program planning, including course selection and program/Faculty/university requirements;
Handle course re-sequencing requests and needs for non-co-op students;
Advise students on course requirements for pursuing professional designations;
Maintain related advising notes/files, complete related process documentation, and compose related correspondence;
Review transcripts and determine transfer credits based on previously approved equivalencies. Ensure all transfer credits are applied to the student record;
Respond to e-mail, telephone and in-person inquiries; manage advising appointments, opening appointment times and track student requests and inquiries;
Liaise as necessary with a variety of individuals including, Department Chairs, Administrative Assistants, the Registrar’s Office, Co-Op Programs Office, Business Career Development Office, Student Development Centre and other Academic Advisors;
Attend student recruitment events including the Ontario Universities’ Fair, representing GSB.
Key Skills and Experience:
An undergraduate degree in a related field;
Experience with academic advising in a post-secondary
