Surgical Services Scheduler Bronson Urology And Continence Specialist: Full Time 80 Hours Per Pay Period

The Surgical Services Scheduler is responsible to the Surgery Manager and correlates with unit staff, medical staff, patients, and family members. The Scheduler is able to work proficiently without supervision. The Scheduler is responsible for all incoming telephone calls to the Scheduling Office and other related areas, giving proper direction of information. Able to book surgery procedures quickly and efficiently. Responsible for post-op charges and record maintenance. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 2 years experience in surgery scheduling preferred.

• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Experience with telephone communication
• Ability to read and interpret data from equipment and computer.
• Able to control confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Ability to provide positive customer service.
• Ability to identify problems and develop/carry out action plan.
• Must be able to function effectively under high stress situations.
• Must be able to manage several job tasks simultaneously.
• Typing and/or Computer Keyboarding at 40-45 wpm
• Must have a customer service orientation.
• Must demonstrate leadership and organizational skills including the ability to work independently and take initiative.
• Must demonstrate a positive attitude and work in a team atmosphere.
• Must be able to work in and cope with a changing environment.
• Must demonstrate flexibility.
• Must demonstrate team building skills.

Work which produces high levels of mental/visual fatigue, e.g., interactive and repetitive or small detailed work requiring alertness and concentration for sustained periods of time, the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT between 40 and 70 percent of the time.
The job produces some physical demands. Typical of jobs that include regular walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, and some lifting of light weight objects.
• Schedules cases accurately and efficiently on computer system, with a minimum of errors.
• Communicates with all internal and external customers using excellent customer service skills and answers phone calls efficiently and effectively.
• Verifies all information obtained with the customers using on-line systems
• Schedules for anesthesia, surgeons, and endoscopy, including the appropriate ancillary departments when needed.
• Uses conflict checking and privileging information prior to booking a surgical case.
• Posts charges for surgical cases accurately in the financial system using appropriate resources and within the designated timeframe.
• Trains new employees
• Analyzes and interprets physician order forms dealing with insurance authorizations and gives appropriate notification when necessary.
• Updates preference cards when requested.
