Description

The Director of Alumni Engagement is responsible for developing a comprehensive and multigenerational engagement program that builds meaningful and lasting relationships between alumni and the University. The ultimate goal of this engagement is to encourage alumni to provide philanthropic support to the University.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

 

Strategic Planning and Programming:

  • Develop a comprehensive alumni engagement strategy and program that is multigenerational in scope and that fosters a lifelong relationship with the University.
  • Gather alumni engagement data and regularly analyze it to develop new or modify existing programming.
  • Identify new vehicles and activities for engaging alumni affinity groups.
  • Plan, organize and execute all aspects of alumni events, including homecoming, networking events, webinars and social gatherings.

Networking & Communication:

  • Coordinate with the Director of Annual Giving to engage current students as future alumni and donors.
  • In partnership with the Office of Marketing and Communication, communicate with alumni through multiple channels.
  • Create an online newsletter and other informational pieces for alumni communication.
  • Survey alumni about the types of programming and communication most meaningful to them.

Volunteer Management:

  • Manage the Alumni Council and work with the Chair to schedule regular in-person and virtual meetings.
  • Identify alumni volunteers to work with the Van Vlissingen Center for Career and Professional Development on professional preparation and internship opportunities for students.
  • Identify and recruit class reunion volunteers.

 

Fundraising:

  • Work closely with the Director of Annual Giving to integrate requests for support and giving links into alumni communications.
  • Encourage alumni to support the University philanthropically.
  • Advise major gift officers on individual alumni and their history with Emory & Henry.

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • A bachelor’s degree is required. A Master’s degree is preferred.

Required Experience:

  • Two to three years of alumni engagement or related (e.g., public relations, event planning, community engagement, marketing) experience.

Competency:

  • Ability to relate effectively to people from diverse age groups and backgrounds.
  • Impeccable written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to travel to meet with alumni.
  • Computer skills and willingness to learn Raiser’s Edge and other University databases.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms.
  • Ability to do rudimentary design work for fliers, etc.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
