Job Description:
Sherpa 6 is seeking a motivated, upward mobile, Mid to Senior Cross-Functional Systems Engineer to join our team and play a key role in both proposal development and program execution. This role is for a for a self-starter who thrives in a dynamic environment and can bridge the gap between engineering rigor, business development, and program execution.
In this role, you will work closely with the company Executive Leadership, Business Development, Solution Architects, and Program Execution Teams to ensure proposals and solutions fully address customer requirements. The job entails use of systems engineering processes and tools to manage contract scope creep, and program risk profiles. The Cross-Functional Systems Engineer will employ expert communication and cross-organizational coordination techniques, to drive successful balance among bid scope, program execution, and risk management to ensure appropriate program resource utilization, and successful outcomes for the business and our customers.
This position requires a broad technical background in software-oriented systems engineering, hardware and software solutioning, software development using structured systems engineering principles and related activities, User Experience (UX), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and systems integration (e.g. with uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS)), Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) tools, Cybersecurity certifications, and Tactical and Enterprise Networks. The position also requires an understanding of program management processes, tools, and metrics, as well as the ability to balance strategic objectives, program execution, and corporate priorities.
This position will require exceptional communication and coordination skills, and will start out with one or two key program initiatives, and grow in scope as individual capacity and program outcomes allow.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with BD and capture teams to shape technical approaches, win themes, and compliance matrices.
- Provide systems engineering leadership during bids and program execution, including:
- Requirements management and traceability
- Operational View (OV) development
- Interface Control Document (ICD) development, control, and management
- Risk management, verification/validation, and configuration management
- Develop and maintain system architecture, design artifacts, and documentation to align with program needs.
- Act as a liaison between engineering teams, program management, and leadership to ensure clarity of technical direction and alignment with strategic goals.
- Support technical reviews, customer engagements, and design milestones to ensure solutions meet cost, schedule, and performance objectives.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- BS in Engineering or a related technical field (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum 10+ years of experience in systems engineering, software engineering, or a related discipline.
- Strong background in software-oriented systems engineering, including design, integration, and sustainment of tactical software solutions.
- Familiarity with Army systems (Nett Warrior, Tactical Networks, ancillary systems integration, goggles, weapon sites, sensors, vehicles, power, data distribution, MDMP, sustainment, and training).
- Experience with network and data architecture design in tactical and enterprise environments.
- Mastery applying DoDAF/UAF to complex defense systems—building and maintaining operational (OV), system (SV), service (SvcV), and capability (CV) views; creating traceable architectures from CONOPS through requirements (e.g., DOORS/Jama) to MBSE models (SysML in Cameo/MagicDraw/CORE or similar tools); integrating with ICD/SAD artifacts; and aligning products to program milestones.
- Requirements and software program management and tools (Jira, Jama, Risk Registry, and related PMP processes).
- Experience coordinating with DoD or federal customers, preferably including Army and Air Force stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to translate user needs into technical solutions.
