The Mission of the San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) is to protect and promote the health of all San Franciscans. SFDPH strives to achieve its mission through the work of two main Divisions - the San Francisco Health Network and Population Health. The San Francisco Health Network is the City’s only complete system of care and has locations throughout the City, including Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center, and over 15 primary care health centers.

Job Description
Under general supervision, performs skilled duties in the preparation and cooking of large quantities of a variety of foods; and performs related duties as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
- Follows prescribed menus and recipes to meet nutritional guidelines and special dietary needs.
- Prepares and cooks a large quantity and variety of food including special diet items commonly found on the menus of institutions.
- Orders food and kitchen supplies.
- Follows food safety standards and practices.
- Forecasts the amount of food and supplies needed and communicates needs with (Management) Chef.
- Directs and assists in the cleaning and maintenance of kitchen equipment and utensils.
- Develop standardized recipes with appropriate supervisor
- Follows instructions and performs tasks to established methods and procedures.
- Prepares and maintains accurate records and report.
- Plans and Execute kitchen procedures for productivity
- Supervises and directs food service staff in performance of their duties.
- Utilizes standardized recipes.
The Cook performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent (GED or High School Proficiency Examination).
- Experience: Three (3) years of work experience cooking large quantities of food in a setting such as hospital, correctional facility, the military, hotel, restaurant or equivalent food service establishment.
Note: Coffee shops, small grab and go kiosks, and sandwich shops are not considered qualifying cooking experience.
Substitution
One (1) year of the required experience can be substituted by any of the following: completion of a one (1) year culinary arts certificate program; or completion of an apprenticeship program certified by a nationally recognized culinary arts organization; or possession of an Associate’s degree in culinary arts.
