Job Summary
Responsibilities
Leads and oversees all administrative functions to implement business strategies to support the research portfolio within the unit.
Provide leadership, mentorship, and supervision to administrative staff. Function as a resource for best practices and expertise.
Develop, coordinate, and execute strategic, operating, talent, and funding plans across unit.
Guide unit leaders to ensure the approaches in the functional areas align with the broader organizational goals and plans.
Develop, build, and maintain successful business relationships with collaborators and stakeholders. Prepare and present reports to leadership.
Be a visible, engaged, and collaborative leader, representing the lab and University of Chicago across various mediums and audiences with the goal of advancing our research initiatives and organization.
Work with procurement and appropriate business units with the University to ensure compliance with all university and federal contract guidelines and regulations.
Provide oversight and management of the activities of the center, including interacting with the subcontract sites, and multiple principal investigators.
Serve as the lead administrator for the center.
Interact with and represent the center to sponsors.
Prepare proposals and budgets with center faculty and staff.
Manages employees by establishing annual performance goals, allocating resources, assessing annual performance, and determining individual merit, incentive and/or promotional increases.
Manages program operations and administrative functions which may include planning and scheduling, program evaluation, policy implementation, personnel administration, budget, marketing, fundraising and proposal development.
Performs other related work as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
Education:
Masters degree in business, management, finance or relevant field of study strongly preferred.
Experience:
Experience with recruitment and human resource processes.
Experience in higher education research administration.
Experience working on scientific, business operations and/or clinical teams.
Experience with pre-award and post-award research administration activities.
Experience with federal contract regulations and compliance.
Preferred Competencies
Ability to handle sensitive information and manage with integrity.
Experience working with grants and contracts.
Prior experience within an academic medical center.
Familiarity with general business practices.
Commitment to providing a high level of service and working in a team environment.
High degree of professionalism.
Knowledge of research operations.
Attention to detail.
Ability to handle confidential information with utmost discretion.
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
