Job Description:
The Laboratory for Equine and Comparative Orthopedic Research (LECOR) has an opening for a post-doctoral researcher with an emphasis in translational biomedical sciences and regenerative medicine. The focus of the laboratory is comparative, translational stem cell research for treatment of pathology associated with aging, trauma, or development, and the post-doctoral researcher will play a pivotal role in upcoming and ongoing investigations. The post-doctoral researcher will be a leader in design and conduct of research investigations as well as data analysis and abstracts, manuscripts, and presentations resulting from the work. The individual will organize, supervise, and participate in preclinical studies. They will be primarily responsible for preclinical testing of novel neotissue. The post-doctoral researcher will have responsibility for outcome measures including cellular molecular, genetic (RNA and DNA) and compositional analyses, histology, biomechanical testing, kinetics, and kinematics. Additionally, design and implementation of culture and medical devices will be an important part of their responsibilities. Train and supervise students and research associates in the laboratory and participate in didactic and/or laboratory education as requested. The position is needed for high-quality, timely completion of externally funded research.
25% Supervise and coordinate daily observation and monitoring of study subjects on simultaneous projects. Schedule, organize, and independently collect or supervise collection of samples or data from study subjects as necessary. Prepare samples for storage, submission to in-house laboratory or shipment to outside facilities. Organize data appropriately.
20% Schedule, organize, perform and troubleshoot/optimize research procedures and techniques for simultaneous research projects involving multiple steps and a variety of reagents and equipment. Identify appropriate new research procedures as needed; learn, implement and perform the procedures.
15% Perform various cellular molecular laboratory procedures, including three-dimensional cell and tissue culture. Identify appropriate analytical techniques, learn, implement and perform them, and interpret results. Optimize and troubleshoot new and existing protocols and suggest alternatives as appropriate. Teach and supervise technicians and student workers in performance of new and existing techniques.
10% Schedule, organize and perform or assist in medical and surgical procedures including: patient restraint and preparation, anesthesia, appropriate set up and preparation for sterile surgical procedures, administration of medications, collection and processing of specimens, and patient recovery and aftercare; provide care to post-operative patients independently with PI consultation.
10% Assist or act as the primary author for preparation, writing, and routing of research proposals and manuscripts. Contribute publication quality descriptions of methods and results, and figures for manuscripts, abstract, and proposals. Organize, analyze, and write descriptions of results according to current scientific standards for published works. Prepare posters and presentations for local, national, and international meetings.
10% Manage data for numerous simultaneous projects, including data collection, computerized data recording, measuring and retrieval systems. Participate and provide training in complex computer program necessary to analyze data and run equipment. Perform data analysis using appropriate statistical models.
10% Didactic and/or laboratory teaching and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Terminal degree and related coursework in discipline/specialty area.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. with 2 years of experience.
