The Excel Center is an adult high school that will offer a full high school curriculum to adults 18 and over, allowing students to earn an accredited high school diploma. Students will have access to academic and life coaching, child care, flexible scheduling, college credits, industry-recognized certifications, and much more – all at no cost to them.

Pay $18.00 per hour

Our school will serve at-risk students who have experienced challenges in traditional academic settings, by finding ways to “meet students where they are” in their education. This is done by providing a flexible structure and supportive relationships, to help students manage work, life, and family concerns, as they achieve their educational goals.

Position Description: 
The Young Learner’s Childcare Center (YLCC) is designed to provide free, temporary, short-term childcare for the adult students of the Excel Center until regular childcare is located. The YLCC is available when students are studying on-site or are in class, and will serve children up to age 12. A child may stay at the center for a maximum of 4 hours each day.

The YLCC assists in ensuring the safe and caring management of all the children entrusted to the center. This means monitoring children in the center, serving snacks, and facilitating learning opportunities for the children while in their care. Assists in keeping parents informed of policies and procedures at the center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides care for children, such as setting schedules and routines, grooming, feeding, changing diapers, and cleaning rooms and toys.
  • Develops and encourages age-appropriate learning and socialization to ensure children learn basic skills and concepts, such as communication, manners, sharing, etc.
  • Maintains a safe workplace by monitoring children for health, behavioral, and emotional issues and reporting concerns to staff and parents.
  • Facilitates hands-on interactive learning experiences working with children directly.
  • Assists in the registration process of children.
  • Updates and ensures accuracy of student files. 
  • Maintains regular communication with parents regarding services, enrollment, scheduling or routine changes, and special events for the children.
  • Assists in achieving short- and long-term goals for the center.
  • Contributes ideas for the development and facilitates the execution of the curriculum and program activities.
  • Participates in regular team meetings.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
     

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills):

  • High school diploma and/or GED required
  • Continuing education in child development, early childhood education, or related field preferred
  • 1 year of experience in a childcare setting
  • Course work/training in early childhood development a plus
  • Child/infant CPR certified/TB testing or willing to obtain
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills
  • Flexible, detail-oriented, ability to balance multiple tasks in a busy, fast-paced environment
  • Have the ability to juggle multiple duties and to resolve conflicts
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Has working knowledge of computer programs to perform clerical tasks: Google applications (specifically Gmail), Excel, Word and Internet Explorer
  • Ability to pass a background check, drug screen, and fingerprint clearance, where applicable for position
