Senior Manager, Institutional Relations

<p><strong>Position summary</strong><strong>:<br/><br/></strong>At the Rainforest Alliance we are looking for a collaborative and results oriented Senior Manager as part of the Institutional Relations (IR) team within the Development unit. Reporting to the Director, Institutional Relations and working as part of an international team of fundraising professionals, the Senior Manager will lead fundraising from European bilateral and multilateral donors (e.g. UK, Netherlands, European Union, Norway). In this position, the Senior Manager is responsible for leading strategy development, growing donor relationships, and securing funding. They will work closely with senior leadership, technical and program leads, and finance staff across the organization to develop detailed fundraising strategies and high-quality proposals, reports and other donor-facing materials. The role will manage a distinct donor portfolio to meet short-term revenue targets while simultaneously building a long-term funder pipeline for future years. Supervising two staff members, the Senior Manager will work closely with the Director and other Senior Managers in the Institutional Relations portfolio to ensure a cohesive approach across donor types.  <br/><br/><strong>Responsibilities</strong><strong>:</strong> </p> <ul> <li>Demonstrate the Rainforest Alliance’s core values in his/her behaviors: Impact, Change, Collaboration, Openness and Trust;</li> <li>Lead the development and implementation of Rainforest Alliance’s overall strategy to win bilateral and multilateral funding in Europe, ensuring that a strong pipeline is in place for both the short and long term;</li> <li>Work across Rainforest Alliance to ensure fundraising strategies complement programmatic goals and help achieve impact at scale desired;</li> <li>Develop revenue budget for the European government funding unit and ensure that the Institutional Relations team meets these annual goals;</li> <li>Provide leadership and guidance for the organization’s relationships with European bilateral and multilateral donors, especially with institutional relations global and regional staff;</li> <li>Lead the development of proposals and concept notes for a range of single and multi-country projects and programs, working closely with a globally dispersed team inclusive of technical and finance staff;</li> <li>Serve as a strong external representative for the organization, building relationships and engaging regularly with contacts at key government agencies;</li> <li>Develop and coordinate cultivation strategies for a distinct portfolio of strategic donors, and support and guide team members to do the same;</li> <li>Work closely with colleagues on the Institutional Relations team, who are based globally, to coordinate on wider fundraising strategies and ensure complementary actions; and</li> <li>Other duties as assigned.</li> </ul> <p><strong> <br/></strong><strong>Qualifications</strong><strong>:</strong> </p> <ul> <li>Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred;</li> <li>Proven experience (10 years’) of program development/government fundraising with proven track record of securing seven figure gifts from European bi-lateral and multilateral agencies;</li> <li>Experience of having worked with several donors from this portfolio, such as the E.U, the U.K Government, the Netherlands, Norway, Germany and the Global Environment Facility, would be highly valued; Strong people management skills, ideally with past experience in supervising staff remotely;</li> <li>Experience in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, work environment – preferably within a global organization;</li> <li>Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) with fluency in English;</li> <li>Spanish, French, Dutch, and/or German language skills a plus;</li> <li>Must be a strong writer that is detail oriented, resourceful, and able to work under tight timelines;</li> <li>Ability to articulate complex programmatic material in a detailed manner both internally and externally, and to audiences with different levels of background in these areas;</li> <li>Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as be an effective team member and team lead;</li> <li>Significant knowledge and understanding of institutional donor trends, particularly in relation to the work of Rainforest Alliance (conservation; agriculture; economic development; sustainable supply chains, etc.);</li> <li>Familiarity with Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning approaches and best practice including theories of change and logical frameworks strongly preferred;</li> <li>Experience with consortium development and/or public-private partnerships (PPPs) within a funding context preferred;</li> <li>Experience of working within Latin America, Africa or Asia-Pacific context a plus;</li> <li>High degree of skill in using MS Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) required;</li> <li>Experience with Salesforce preferred; and</li> <li>Ability to travel up to 1
