Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

The Birth Center Nurse provides antenatal, labor and delivery, postpartum, current licensing nursery care, compromised newborn stabilization, preoperative, operating room, and post anesthesia care unit (PACU), and cares for medical surgical patients utilizing the nursing process, generic and department specific structure standards to ensure the delivery of a safe and an appropriate level of care according to established performance standards.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • Current California Registered Nursing (RN) License required.

  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required or must complete within 90 days of hire.

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. 

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required or must be completed within 90 days of hire (employee will not function independently until certified). 

  • Advanced Fetal Monitoring proof of class attendance within the past 12 months required or must complete Advanced Fetal Monitoring within 90 days of hire.

Knowledge:

  • Labor and delivery experience preferred; will train if no experienced candidate.

Skills:

  • Excellent patient assessment skills are required. 

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize multiple concurrent tasks.  Skilled in providing antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, preoperative, operating room, PACU, mother/baby couplet care, and medical surgical patients as appropriate. 

  • Skilled in providing nursery care compliant with current licensing.

  • Must demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills, including compassionate and effective communication with patients, as well as effective communication with physicians, nurses and other staff.
