Position Title: Boys Baseball- Assistant Coach ( Sophomore)
Reports to: Director of Athletics and Activities; Activities Facilitator; Building Principal or Designee
Stipend: $7,393.96

FLSA Status: Extra Duty/Stipend Position Position Overview: This position is responsible for supporting the Head Coach in planning, implementing, and evaluating all facets of the for the sport, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and development-focused environment for student-athletes. The coach will work closely with students, faculty, administrators, and parents to implement a comprehensive and competitive program. Under the supervision of the Athletic Director, the coach assumes responsibility for the program, fostering a positive and disciplined team culture. The ideal candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, enthusiasm, and the ability to work collaboratively within the school community. A successful track record in teaching and coaching is expected.
Qualifications Required Experience & Training:
• Valid Illinois State Teaching Certificate (Type 03, 09, or 10) OR ASEP/NFHS Certification, as mandated by the Illinois High School Association (IHSA).
• Compliance with Illinois state law and IHSA regulations regarding CPR and AED certification for all high school athletic coaches.
• Completion of IHSA-mandated concussion awareness training and other safety protocols as required by state and federal regulations, including the Youth Sports Concussion Safety Act (105 ILCS 5/22-80).
• Background check and fingerprinting clearance in accordance with the Illinois School Code and IHSA eligibility requirements.
• Completion of federal Title IX training to ensure compliance with anti-discrimination laws in athletics.
• In-depth knowledge of the sport, including rules, techniques, and strategies.
• Prior successful coaching experience in the assigned sport.
• Strong instructional skills in both individual and team fundamentals, strategy, and physical conditioning.
• Commitment to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and equitable athletic program that supports the academic and personal development of all student-athletes.
• Coaching Certification: For non-teaching staff, possession of a current coaching certification through the American Sport Education Program (ASEP), National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), or other IHSA-approved programs is required.
• Concussion Certification: Completion of state-mandated concussion certification is necessary, with certifications typically valid for two years.
Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with the Head Coach to design and run skill-development drills, practice plans, and conditioning sessions.
• Provide individualized feedback to student-athletes on technique, effort, and sportsmanship.
• Assist with game-day logistics, including equipment setup, venue preparation, team warm-ups, and scorekeeping.
• Maintain and inventory athletic equipment, coordinating repairs, storage, and issuance.
• Monitor adherence to IHSA rules, district policies, and safety protocols, including CPR/AED readiness and concussion management.
• Support athlete eligibility tracking and manage required documentation, such as physical exams and academic clearances.
• Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and staff, serving as liaison and elevating concerns to the Head Coach as needed.
• Participate in preseason parent meetings, team briefings, mandatory trainings, and postseason tasks such as equipment returns and award presentations.
• Perform other responsibilities as assigned by administration.
• Assist the Head Coach and Athletic Director with developing the game schedule and coordinating travel logistics.
• Support budget management by tracking season expenditures, reconciling equipment orders, and maintaining inventory records.
• Help prepare materials for parent and booster meetings, support public-relations efforts, and disseminate program updates.
